Happy birthday to one of my favorite artists; ever.
Geoff, you have brought me so much joy with your music and performances over these many years. You have also been so nice to me, and so many others, since the very first time I met you. Which as most folks know, can be a rarity with many so-called celebrities. Always a pleasure to hang out with you a bit, and talk. Never did I think back in the days with MTv, The Buggles, and ASIA, that I would do so.
Really looking forward to the new DBA album.
Lastly, I want to repeat something I said about Geoff Downes previously. He makes the moment special for those polite, genuine fans who get to meet him for the first time, and from them on. Whether it's folks getting a picture, who else do you know smiles for every fan picture? Not many folks. None really. I spied Geoff, and gave him a quick hello at the recent Warner Theater show. I told the long time fan I was talking to, that that was Geoff Downes. Geoff came back and gave me several minutes of his time just before the show started, where we talked a bit. Said fan had never met Geoff before. I was watching him with his mouth slightly agap. It was a good moment for him. He apologized for interrupting us, politeness goes a long way with most folks, and said " You are Geoff Downes. Can I shake your hand?" Now I am not into idolizing people. But for this guy, shaking Geoff's hand not only made the show experience that much better, a story to tell, but something he will never forget. And that longtime fan and his wife both bought resale tickets for $500 a pop. I was happy for the guy. Thank you, Geoff.
