    Geoff gets Salty : twitter

Think the gent deserves his own thread devoted to his cranky pants. On twitter and elsewhere.

Remember the "yuppets" oldyesfans imbroglio? Skippy the Kangaroo? Man has form.

dissed Adele's new single. Said it was auto-tune. Was corrected. Did apologise and blamed it on his old AM radio

today dissed Elton and Sheeran's new Xmas single for being a boring chord progression.

Love it when famous musos get catty!
(for the record, haven't heard the song and likely won't. Don't want to spoil my Sheeran-Avoidance-Strategy.)

What else has our man had a swipe at?

Great that he’s spotting boring chord progressions. If only he was as critical on his own songs...

I remember him being very critical of Bowie’s single ‘Where are we now?’

Wonderful, moving song, and a fine album. Downes is an oaf.
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

All kinds of things! It's his brand. My issue with the Elton-Ed duo was just that it's so generic-sounding (and maybe the chord progression does have something to do with it).

I agree with you that it’s a wonderful, moving song. As for Geoff Downes I disagree with him on this and many other things that he has posted over the years however he has an opinion one way or another and I respect that. In a world where we are faced with vanilla answers I find him refreshing.

I remember he was less than polite once about Henry Potts in his early days of returning to the band. Henry (if memory serves me correctly) tacked him on this and to be fair to Geoff Downes I think he apologised. Make no mistake, Henry is not a yuppet!

That surprises me. As Henry is such a Panther. But must have said something. Wonder what it was?

Geoff Downes has a lot of nerve to go online and nit pick people’s musical output. Oh wait...I do a bit of that myself, so who am I to talk!

I am always surprised when I see these quotes from him.

Seems totally opposite from all the times we ran into him. Wife and I were lucky enough to run into him on a couple occasions before shows, hanging out at a bar, and was just a nice pleasant regular guy. And I still hold that position.

Maybe everyone just has a bad snarky day every now and then.

And some people are only snarky on the Internet. I know a few people who've also encountered him IRL and say he's well-mannered/charming so I figure it's that.

Geoff has always been a stand up guy, with an opinion. I'll take him over vanilla, any day.

                            Not always salty, sometimes sweet.

Geoff caught a Chrissy panto last night with her indoors, starring Donny Osmond and was quite impressed by his singing and performance

I haven't listened to him lately, but truly - back in the day Donny gave MJ a definite run for the money.
