Black Rose is probably my most favourite (at the moment, at least).

That would make Rick Hogan's day! He's one helluva writer and a fun guy. Great song to play ... it can go on for quite some time before you get bored ... and ... I think it goes on a bit on Origins.

Hey Dan, absolutely nothing to miss. As always I wear many hats, not just in music but also in business and with of course with my wife. Music and artistic creativity is a passion play as the economics are simply not there these days. The last possible hurrah musically (assuming stars had aligned, as they almost did) was 15 years ago during the Original White Band period. Since then, the business (if you can call it that) is on life support.

While there is still every intent on releasing the Original White Band Catalog as discussed in the YouTube series (Origins, Loyal & WhiteSongs), the global pandemic along with respecting Yes proper’s Quest release/tour must be considered. Corona continues to challenge and requires adaptability. Expect the unexpected.

I’ve seen some comments on Jon’s Patreon venture and I can empathize with both Pro and Jon (see what I did there?) … fans yearn for the spectacle that was the 70s, 80s, 90s and to some degree the first decade of this millennia - however the costs of creation have skyrocketed, the assurances and insurances of touring will take a huge bite out of what the industry migrated to since CREATION revenue (new music) doesn’t provide the return on investment it once did. I mean I know friends and industry legends who are selling their entire catalogs to advertising consortiums to maintain existence - from artist to producer - they are all faced with cashing in on their legacy - cashing in on their brand.

Couple that with entertainment expectations courtesy of Netflix (on demand, 24/7), and you get Jon on Patreon. Artists must consider global delivery to maintain sustenance. Yes - it’s that bad. Jon is being creative, priced in his economics and hoping it works. (Jon’s) Healthcare isn’t getting any cheaper, and it requires monthly tribute. I get both sides. For me, the royalty check I got from the night New Day and DreamAway premiered on RockLine (2005) was about 500x more than the checks I get today. It’s tough out there guys. So get used to hearing your classic rock pushing everything from Mortgages to Potato chips … the stuff of (an artist’s) nightmares … or worse, in a mashup of Dua Lipa with Elton John’s Rocket Man. Cold Heart indeed!

For me to have manifested the Original White Band catalog was pure passion funded purely by me. I’ll never come close to seeing an economic return on it, and I’m in a fortunate position of having created some pretty big businesses (one of my MSFT creations made $45Billion for Microsoft last year alone) that allowed the studio equipment, time and effort necessary to put out a product everyone can be proud of, to be heard as intended - or to quote Roger Waters “Hey girl, As I've always said I prefer your lips red, Not what the good Lord made, But what he intended”. No one in their right mind would have spent the time nor money I did on those albums. Fortunately, I was insanely passionate about that band, that group of players and that creative period. There’s also a Treason album waiting in the wings … so 4 complete albums, 2 bands with some pretty cutting edge production.

But alas - none of that has the brand that a Yes, Elton John, Brice Springsteen or the like have. We had the opportunity to have created some sort of brand in 2005 … but forces conspired against us - and history happened. It doesn’t change the music, the integrity nor the incredible memories created during those days.

Anyways - not going anywhere - I’m here (occasionally), and as a dearly departed friend of mine used to always say … On Rides the Mael!
