Ever sung a Yessong at a Karaoke thing?
If you haven't, would you? Could you?

I'm a low tenor, I was in a choir for a while about ten years ago, and doubled the basses if I couldn't handle the high tenor parts, so Yes vocals as originally sung are almost entirely beyond me. In the Presence of is just about doable for me though...
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

I can't sing, so even though it might be tempting sometimes I don't want to subject anybody to that. And it's also the performative kind of thing which neurodivergent me would not enjoy (as I am okay with certain performative things).

Last time karoakeyed did He Ain't Heavy ( he's my brother) in tribute to my old friend Marcus.

In my range. A couple of people clapped. Drunk. Bewildered. I sat down. Needed a few minutes to myself.

YES? Too high. Though enjoy mumbling a Norm-core version of Machine Messiah in scat mode, as I walk up to the high street in the morning. So there's that.

If karaoke existed in the US when I was 14 - 18 years old (1976 - 1980), I’d have given it a shot then, but my voice is now too low to replicate Jon’s vox.

I was deemed a contralto back then, but I always questioned that…and now I’m not even sure where my voice falls.
Amen.

I've done Owner a couple of times and even Roundabout. I kind of passed on Long Distance Runaround. Since I know the songs so well, I can usually get by with changing octaves or singing harmonies. Seems to work. I even did Roundabout once at an open-mic, acapella. The small 'crowd' of younger people seemed to like it.

I did Changes at the Karaoke bar/meat market in Napa last week. First time I've done it. It went over pretty well. The 'kids' seemed to like it!
