This would make me guilty as well, would'nt it?

A burner that can burn CD-Rs is all you need.

Try making a copy first. If you can do it then you can claim burners and offer these shows back to the site.

I am new here and found a recording of a show I attended - and i had been searching for it everywhere - so, i am very grateful for this sites opportunities. But as a newbie I am a bit unclear about the playing field. I will re-seed the dvd i got, ( just before the Holidays - cheers Bruce ! ) ) but i choose to wait until the present frenetic activity here had slowed down a bit. How long do i have to do this before I end up on a `list ` ?

Best thing you can do is re-offer the show as soon as you've received a good copy.

Whilst there's no real reason to sit on a show before offering it back, we do appreciate that people do have other things going on in their lives and it might not always be possible for them to do the burning , mailing etc straight away. You might receive a burner copy the day before a fortnight's holiday for example, but if there's no good reason why you can't be offering it back, then do it.

We don't have a definite time limit, but the majority of people who trade appreciate what a "reasonable timescale" is. We cut people a lot more slack here than on other sites but it seems to work well. We generally have a good bunch of people trading here.

Some members spend a lot of time in the Trading Room and know the score well. Others mighty only pop in there rarely to claim a show they were at. However anyone who claims a show should be aware how the system works

What's a bad trader?

Give you an example - victorwater.

He joined and proceeded to claim numerous burner copies of shows.

It appeared that he was'nt going to bother either.

He ignored several requests from the staff to re-weed and is no longer with us.

So if you sent a show to victorwater, it's lost from the system.

If you're approached off site for a trade then I would avoid sending anything to him:

João Victor Godoy de Barros
( address detail deleted)
Conjunto Benedito Bentes 1
Benedito Bentes
Maceió - AL
CEP: 57084-040
BRAZIL

We will send reminders to people on occasion, but it would be a full time job tracking every thread in the Trading Room, and we don't really want to go down that route.

That's why we would ask anyone who has sent burners out, to have a quick check to see if the person they sent it to has re-weeded. If they haven't you can either ask them if they received the show OK as a gentle hint, or you can let us know.

It's much easier for members themselves to police the system on a routine basis than for the staff to do it. It spreads the load and we only really need to get involved if there's a problem.

Overall you're all doing a great job sharing the music around!!

2. If people wait until another offer has been fully claimed, they would need to keep checking that thread. That's not easy to remember to do.

3. If no-one claims your re-weed, you can always bump the thread at a later date.

4. There might be simultaneous re-weeds on different sides of the Atlantic. It can keep costs down if people can choose to claim a copy from someone in their own neck of the woods.

So, as soon as you receive your burner copy in the mail, just re-offer it back to the site.

thanks... will do! this is my reweed, so I needed the guidance...

Just make 3 copies. 1 copy (burnerless) goes to someone who can't copy and therefore doesn't need to re-offer, the other 2 copies (burners) go to people who can and will copy and re-offer.

Re: Members not re-weeding shows !!

I want to clarify something here. I received a copy of the Westbury show from someone that is a member of this site as well as another. The offer for a copy was made on the other site. The transaction was made from info on the other site. He told me when he sent me the copy that he hoped I would re-weed it on YF.
By not offering it until now, have I broken a YF rule? Am I subject to being chastised by the Cyber-Police
Just curious……….
I am now offering it per a request from him to do so. He said that he was taking a lot of HEAT over here to get it re-weeded. He asked in a pm. I would have totally forgotten about it and would have never seen this post if it weren’t for that pm. I have decided not to come here as often as I had in the past because of many posts that I have read by a certain moderator. I have been a member of this site since 2002 and have enjoyed it, until recently.
I have never received any weeds from this site, nor have I requested any. I still respect most of the members here, but, I just can’t stomach reading posts from this certain mod.
If you are interested in a copy of this show from me, please contact me thru a pm, and do so in the next week. At that time I plan to resign from YF.

Thank You,
Chefgolf

Re: Members not re-weeding shows !!

Patrick,

If you got a copy of that show from another site then there's no obligation on you to re-weed it here. Not as far as we're concerned anyway.

If it was part of some agreement you made with someone off-site, that you would share it here, that's great, but we weren't looking for you to re-weed anything. You didn't appear on our radar at all.

Re: Members not re-weeding shows !!

For the record I'm on THIS side of the Atlantic.

I'll go out on a limb and assume that because of my constant presence here and at some gatherings, my lack of demure in writing style, the fact I'm in the US is no mystery.

My own process is that I receive a weed, give it a spin (as quickly as possible) so that I can check for errors, gaps, both discs are indeed 1 & 2, etc.

And then I promptly re-weed within the next couple of days.

I consider myself far from an over achiever...

Diligent maybe, living up to the commitments I've made, OK, maybe I'm guilty of these terrible traits.

I hope that this isn't interpreted as a "Holier than thou" attitude. I'm always sorry when someone is troubled with this site or its members or its moderators.

A model trader!

But did you say "gaps" ?

Now there's a whole new topic.

Now with using Nero and depending on the length of said gaps (micro) it is as easy to correct in the "Audio CD" option making sure you click the box "no pause between songs" before you import the songs rather than using the "copy CD" option.

I trust that wasn't jargon.

I'm new to the whole weeding process but I receive my weed from Bruce and re-weeded it right away, next day two were shipped. I'm more concerned with the quality of my packing job then how quickly I turned it around, as I haven't sent CDs through mail before, so I'm hoping to hear soon that it arrived safe and sound.

True enough.
My Burner will only accept cds that are cd-r(Music) it will not
burn a 'Regular' cd-r.

Technically I have a "CD-r Music" burner.
Not a "CD-r" burner. They are two different technologies.

This computer that I use here is actually Borrowed from a friend,
I must travel to use this as I have none of my own.
This "burner" on this computer is fried. It's not my computer.

I will simply shy away from ordering anything more from the Trading room for now. I am still a 'Newbie' here at YF.
I certainly do not want to ruffle any feathers here.

Don't let that put you off from the Trading Room.

If you can't burn, you can't burn.

There's no reason why you can't carry on claiming burnerless copies of shows.

No feathers have been ruffled.

Glad to hear!

But there was/is a question put to myself about the
"Changed Status" of a prior request for a Burner copy
which has now been recinded.
(See posts for the ABWH Show available.)

It seemed that I inadvertantly had 'Ruffled a Feather' or two!

Just an idea here but,
would it be out of line for myself at some point,
to offer Burnerless only to those who have no burner available?

It is just an idea.
I would just like to be able to give back if at all possible.

Thank you.

(And "Thank you" Gary, I read your post. )
