Reality check??

This is posted with all due respect to the people making the types of posts that I am about to describe (many of whom are longtime Yesfans, and very knowledgeable, nice people with whom I have conversed on many an occasion)....

LETS GET REAL!

There have been so many posts about proposed alternative line-ups for Jon to perform with (most with Bill on drums), or for Jon to join Circa, etc... etc....

While this is fun to speculate about IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!!

(I myself have participated in DREAM LINE-UP threads, but just know that its all in fun with no expectations that they would actually happen....)

I know people have a right to post about what they wish on this site (within the guidelines), I am just beginning to worry that some of my Yes-friends have lost sight of reality here....

CIRCA is a band in it's own right....Jon's not invited, nor do I think he is expecting to be invited....

Bill has made it very clear that he is RETIRED from performing...

Don't get me wrong...I'd love to see Jon back with Yes, and everything humming along smoothly, but that just isn't what's meant to be at this time...

It is what it is....for now :)

One thing we all know as Yes fans is Perpetual Change ain't just a great closer for The Yes Album!

So maybe someday Jon will be back, but for now, Jon has to make his own way......

And (as i have said a couple of times before), I suspect that Jon has made his peace with the situation, and realizes that he doesn't have to do YES stuff...he has time to do JON stuff, and from recent reports, I believe he is getting on with those projects (in his own free-spirited way)...

Again, I am not saying this to belittle anyone! I am just getting the feeling that some people, whom I still think highly of, are maybe a little off of the real world at the moment, in their desire to see Jon back involved in Yes, or some reasonable facsimile...but these are grown men (Jon, Steve, Chris, etc...)....they'll be OK :)

OK ....

Rant over...

You may now continue your regularly scheduled Yesfans session....

I think people are passionate about the band and take ownership. I remember how my dad would come to blows with anyone who said a bad word about Frank Sinatra. It's as if it is holy to some people. Not unlike the fanaticism of sports fans.

If I flipped out every time someone said something disparaging about any or all of the bands/musicians I really dig, I'd be in some big trouble, and would probably need the help of a professional. There are always going to be people who naysay what and who you love. So what? They are not you and they're not coming from your place. Luckily, I tend to adopt the "Who cares what they think?" viewpoint, and then I go on my merry way. The hooting and hollering alternative doesn't hold much appeal for me.

Some are so precious about their "side", it's bizarre.

"I wandered lonely as a cloud,
Till I came upon this dirty street.
I've never seen a stranger crowd;
Slubberdegullions on squeaky feet.

Continually pacing,
With nonchalant embracing.
Each orifice digracing
And one facing me moves to say "hellay"."

Yea, that's MY take.

Re: Reality check??

We know that some things can be ruled out as impossible, but with some other ideas that have been broached you never know. Anderson isn't going to join CIRCA: full time. He just isn't. Who is to say that he couldn't do a guest vocal on one song or something like that or contribute vocals on one of Billy Sherwood's other myriad projects? Who is to say that Trevor Rabin might finally want to do make some non-soundtrack music after all these years and want to use Anderson's voice in some capacity? My pie in the sky matchup involves Anderson and Roine Stolt. That's not likely either, but it also isn't impossible. It would probably be more a matter of convincing Jon to do it than convincing Roine.

fan = fanatic
cult = culture = veneration by consensus

But when you start confusing the idea with the person, the perception with the reality, that's where we encounter these seemingly pointless "discussions."

Re: Reality check??

I have not seen the new band, nore heard but a few ----ty cuts from U TUBE on my lousy PC system so I am in the middle, confused to if I should like what is the new Yes. I have been driving this Yes car for a short tim,e 25 years, short time compared to some, but right now I still feel like someone has screwed with my car and I don't like how it is running.
Chris, Steve, Alan, I totally GET why you want to do what you are doing but having not seen/heard the new set up I am lost, left with only hearing YES MUSIC done by one mans voice, only heard Yes vocals done with jon and Chris for a long time. I don't like that I may not like what is there now and then MY dream is over. I hope when you all come back through the states I can be reclaimed to the current Yes sound but for now I am left with memories!

"Yes now is not Yes before, things change. People change, band members come band members go, maybe we would all be happy if Yes did Like most bands, wither and fade away. But they won't and as long as Yes is here I will support them. They sound great, judge them for now not before. I am not a music critic, I am a Yes fan. I love Yes, I breathe Yes every day, there are many people I know that want to put duct tape around my lips to shut me up, because I cannot go 1 day w/o talking about Yes. Please open your eyes to today and not yesterday." (C) CRES 2010

Re: Reality check??

This thread really ISN'T about the merits or demerits of the current line-up (there are plenty of those)...but, about those people who think that these grown professionals are going to put together a certain fantasy line-up, come out or retirement, change from a lucrative carreer path, where they have full creative control, and return to something from their past, which may have been the right thing at the time, but they now feel they have "been there, done that" and have moved on...sure its fun timagine, as a fan, but I am just saying be real about it! Some people seem obsessed with these scenarios, and seem to think they are likeley to actually happen. I have actually seen some people here expecting a response from Billy Sherwood about their idea. All of these guys have lives and projects of their own. They are not going to give all of that up because someone on a message board, no matter how big a fan, how nice or intellegent they may be....that's all I'm trying say here.
