Probably a shorter set anyways due to festival setting?

Re: YES feat. ARW: Tues 5th June – Mannheim, ZELTFESTIVAL

No it wasn't a festival-gig (zeltfestival is just a name for a concert-programme in a big tent over the summer). And the setlist was the same as the first gig - but the music was very good. Fortunatley I was prepared and had no longer illusions about the Setlist. And yes, that setlist is boring in a way and I still don't get it why they don't even put in one single new song, at least.

But - it you forget about this and beam yourself in the moment, moment, moment-mode, those two hours plus were really, really good. They were in fine form had lust to play. Some of it was even tighter and more diverse as a my first YesF-gig in 2017. First of all: I like that new And You And I, in Mannheim it was meandering like hot Lava. Some said About the Poland-version it is a trainwreck. What I heard was a fine re-reading of the song with a new attitude.

The song that didn't work at all was South Side Of The Sky, quite uninspired. I'm Waiting was tense at some sections (Secret of Pearls) but seemed to fall apart on others. It doesn't really work as well. ISAGP, well a solid but not more, no comparison to the Wonderful Swinging Version on 9012live. But that was all on the minus-side. The Sound was summa summarum good, but at some parts of the Show a bit swampy, but, aynway…

Back to the many good Moments... I did not hear much better and more intense and colourful versions of Heart Of The Sunrise. Perpetual Change, well I never would have wished to hear it now, but it was a good experience, energetic, focussed. Some here now my reservations About Awaken, but this Version was even better than the one of the previous years, It seemd to last for Hours in the best sense with out loosing its power and seemed to have much more sections than I could remember. Trevor reduced his quantitative input a little, but painted his own Interpretation focussed. And there was this relative long(er) part where Wakey and the rhythmsection played alone, wonderful as well.

The rest of the Setlist was rewarding as well. Even if Jon had some problems here and there, lost track and the momentum. Again I felt the pleasure of this band to really play in the best sense with Yesmusic, Trevor most of all but also Rick really manage to keep the Music fresh. And the audience was enthusiastic in parts. The more - I still must say - I am angry about their resistance to invest more risk and time in presenting at least some changes in the setlist.

Oh, and yes, I liked Iain Hornal. he isn't a better bassplayer than Pomery (and still I would prefer Billy Sherwood for YesF), but his harmony-singing was more prominent, I guess.

Now I wish that at least some Yesfans get one or two new Songs in the following Shows. But anyway - everybody who has got a ticket, look forward, and if you don't have one, buy it... disregarding the Setlist, well, the setlist isn't anyway everything...

To me it was still not perfect, well, it might get not perfect anymore… but to my ears it was at least along with YEsF in 2017 the best Yesexperience since 2004.

Do you mean you thought it was a better show than your previous ARW experience?

No, not really, both shows were more or less equally good. I mean - compared to all the YesO Shows since 2004 I just like the two YesF-shows the most.

thanks for the review, peter, and thanks Luna for the instant finds (though I am catching them late).
did anyone see the joke in the one picture? (paraphrasing) Dumbledore? Merlin? No, it's rick Wakeman! pretty funny... (let it be said I have nothing but respect for the man and hope/think he would laugh at it himself)
