    Downes' Recent Twitter Comments

Someone posted to Geoff on Twitter regarding his shared writing credit with Wakeman & Anderson for the ABWH track "Brother of Mine".
His reply to James Auman was curious & appears to be a sly shot at Anderson.

    Anyone read it differently?

It drives me nuts when people online don't know the difference between "your" and "you're".

    There so stupid.

I didn't take it as anything but an explanation. He took high road, Imo. Still think it is cool they share a writing credit.

That goes for me as well. He is saying though that Anderson didn't write much in actuality for that particular song, that it was sort of an "arrangement" to credit him as indeed often happens and he cites examples. But since it is well known what Anderson had written before, it is also clear that Anderson doesn't belong in the line of Elvis/Spice Girls. So I read the two as seperate things 1) Anderson not really having written much for that particular song 2) an example of artists who generally made such arrangements.

Geoff and Steve only co-wrote the last part of that song "Long lost brother of mine". Thats the bit we're talking about eh?

Most of the lyrics earlier in the song are obviously Jon.

I don't read any shot at Anderson, after all the song is credited to Anderson, Howe, Wakeman and Bruford + Downes

If you feel Downes is having a shot at Anderson, should I ask why don't you feel it is a shot at Wakeman Snr and or Bruford ?

Note Bruford and Howe get a credit on the Meeting and I doubt they did much writing for that!

Good for Downes responding to a tweet, its a good song. I like that album despite the bad rap it has

It's essentially about Steves's brother in New Zealand and the chorus is essentially his song as you will discover on Homebrew

Yes; that's why Dolly Parton never let him record "I Will Always Love You"--Col. Tom Parker demanded a writing credit and therefore half Dolly's royalties as a writer.

    Never quite understood that.

I prefer it to anything else from the Drama to Open Your Eyes run of albums.

True enough, but there's not that much competition in that run.

In that case, Bill should have pushed for a writing credit for Levin. Weak sauce...

Seriously, I am curious who wrote what parts. Because some of it does sound pretty Jon and Rickish. Yes, Rickish... Not the Long Lost Brother of Mine section, obviously from the credits.

I did not see any shot. Did not know GD was in any way part of ABWH.

    Re: Downes' Recent Twitter Comments

From what I understood, Jon had written most of the songs in sketch form and Steve and Rick fleshed it out. Steve brought some of his stuff to the table ("Birthright" he had started w/ Max Bacon for GTR, "Long Lost Brother" with Geoff for Asia). So, these pieces were brought into the fold and rearranged with many new Jon lyrics.
