Geez, the video told me who he is.

I'm glad that was a humorous recollection rather than a snarky one.

Here's a bit of trivia....2004 tour YES with Dream Theater opening for them. In DT's set they played an instrumental version of "Machine Messiah". I thought it was cool that YES allowed them to do it, it went over well (at least at the show I was at) :

There's actually some Dream Theatre stuff I really like. Now, why do I suddenly feel like I just said "this piece of halibut was good enough for Jehova"....

There is no doubt they are talented musicians. But they seem like jock prog rock. Athletic. Guys who studied too much at the Musicians Institute and not much soul in the sound. A lot of prog bands come off that way to me. Funny how much mojo Yes, Crimson, Genesis, and Rush, have that others don't... It's like the others get lost in copying the sounds and formula's with no soul or stark originality of their own. Maybe it's the singer and that corny metal hybrid that really turned me off..? Still a funny story though!

No time for Dream Theater, real snooze fest for me. Loved Liquid Tension Experiment though- there punishingly quick instrumental playing was rather the point.

If there has ever been any "soul" in their music, Jordan Rudess is IMO the guy who has helped them. His writing on the "6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence" (the symphonic side) has "influenced by YES" all over it.......and He also made some really good contributions on Liquid Tension Experiment 2 as well as Octavarium.
