They did pretty good at NJPAC - not a sellout but a healthy showing. Montreal and Quebec City were somewhat closer to a sell-out. I'm basing this on capacity data available online.

Also interesting to note that Lee was/is a part, so far, of one of the top 20 worldwide tours this year (Take That) according to Pollstar. I expect they'll remain there at year's end as well with the upcoming AU/NZ tour.

I am not surprised. I would be surprised if either version of Yes could consistently sell substantially more that that. We are nearing the end.

Where I live, Cheap Trick recently played the county fair. Cheap Freaking Trick. A county fair. You know that had to hurt.
Fun Fact: Your average university's school of music has jazz and classical guitar students whose names you'll never hear of, but who nonetheless make the Howe vs Rabin debate pretty pointless.

I think that the fair is fine. For that matter, the Western Idaho Fair has always made the concerts free with fair admission.

And no, it doesn't hurt. Every person in front of them was a FAN. They played for people who love them.

A concert at that fair can pull in 10-15,000 fans, which is a lot of hot dogs, pop and beer.

    Numbers to prove your claim?
ReAwaken (after the Bethlehem Sands concert 2016):
Sometimes in music, the songs can transcend the band members themselves - I think Yes is such a band.

I think it's sad, too, but inevitable. Not only are both bands reaching critical mass in terms of the age of the core members, but the public demand for this type of music just isn't there. That's not to denigrate the music, but how many people can you expect to see, say, the Glenn Miller Band? The music itself is magnificent, but the demand just isn't there, no matter what the effect the music had on the culture at the time.

The best Yes concert I saw was at Madison Square Garden in 2004. Not only was it my favorite lineup, but it also was seen by 12,000 people (give or take). I feel Yes music is so large expansive that it needs a large setting like that to complement it. When I saw Yes in Westbury, Long Island in 2008 and in Poughkeepsie in 2009, the shows were fine, but with such a small arena, it lost something for me. Kinda like when I saw Asia at the Friar Tuck Inn in the Catskills many years ago (early 1990s, I believe). Nice show, but Geoff Downes was as close to me as the waiters.

I'm always surprised how Yes was able to rebuild its fan base for the 2004 tour, it does seem to have pulled in substantially more fans than any tour for several years preceding and since. At the time Yes were experiencing a renewed curiosity because of the box set and Rhino remasters, even Rolling Stone was giving them decent reviews.

On a side note, I don't understand why on earth they didn't film the Madison Square Garden show instead of the Tsongas one! History in the making and a much more iconic venue.

I saw Yes in 1976 in Philadelphia with 115,000 screaming meanies setting the seats on fire during Ritual.

Any adjustment of ambition is going to be painful, I suspect, but this is Life. You can't be the center of the Universe forever. And the sooner we all come to grips with that, then we won't have to be sad anymore. I'm not, actually. Because 52-year-old me doesn't enjoy going to big arenas anymore anyway. And concerts are not about reclaiming my lost youth for a few hours, they're about going to listen to the music I love performed by people I admire (usually).
