    No love for TOTC

I love the song, has all the Elements of a great YES tune. I love Steve's guitar work on the album, great lyrics, kinda tells a story. Yet all that, it seems the song never gets much love from the fans. Not spoke about like the many other top YES songs.

I just love Steve and Rick's work on it actually. They play off each other very well on this tune. Jon's singing, the lyrics are very very cool. The song starts out slow and explodes to a then again quiet keys and guitar tickle of the strings and keys.

The song is as strong as Awaken but just seems to never get the props for how good it is.

It doesn't feature the flashy playing evident in many Yes songs, but I find it a very finely honed tune with well developed lyrics and it is beautifully executed.

A gem of a song and one of the highlights on GFTO.

An underrated piece for sure. And perhaps some of their most "emotional" sounding performance.

It's an all time favourite of mine. It has IMO some of Howe's finest s guitar work in the electric section and the guitar/keys interplay is wondrous. I wish they would play it more live - Although it seems to me that live versions can be a bit hit or miss and I'm not sure if that's because it's underplayed, or it's underplayed because it's tricky to pull off. Certainly when I've seen it live it's sometimes been sublime, sometimes a trainwreck, and it can be that variable even from one night to the next.

I love the song. Especially the interplay between Steve and Rick, which has proven to be particularly challenging to get right in a live setting.

Sometimes in music, the songs can transcend the band members themselves - I think Yes is such a band.

I love this song and agree that Wakeman and Howe performances shine. Steve has some very Simon and Garfunkel moments in this one and I love them. And Wakeman's keys really help the song to flow.

    Great track.

Gorgeous. One of their very best, IMO.

I avoided listening to it for a while because it's a song that has always elicited strong emotions in me, all the way back to my teenage years. When I finally did break down and listen (about 6 months ago) it was waterworks central. Good catharsis. Now the dam is broken and I can play it whenever I want.

Absolutely love the studio version. The live version continues to disappoint. They consistently "modulate down" at the end of the song. This piece is the highlight and when they modulate, they lose the energy.

Although it was lovely to finally hear this live in 1996, 2004, and beyond... I still think the 1977 live versions are the best...

I love it. Therefore I've included it in my dream 50y jubilee setlist:

Actually in my book ToTC>TBO>AYAI - I love all three of them to make myself clear. I just think that ToTC is the best, most advanced composition of the three.

My all-time favorite Yessong. I love almost all of them, but his one is special. I agree that the studio version is superior to any live version that I have witnessed. That said, I still love to see them perform it.

A amazing song... filled with great musicianship and emotion.

When it gets to the part... "Was it sun through the haze that made all your looks as warm as moonlight" .....

it can bring tears to my eyes because of the radiant beauty flowing from my speakers.

One of my all time favorite Yes songs. Just out of this world beautiful and unique. The Yes orchestra creating something all their own. I like it much better than Awaken! One of few songs that brought tears to my eyes the first time I saw it live. Such heavy emotion........

    Re: No love for TOTC

I remember reading a comment from Squire who said that TOTC required much more rehearsal than most other tunes - the lack of drums made it very challenging for everyone to play in sync and at the same pace. Perhaps that's why they don't go out of their way to play it. Agree with another post here in that it's quite noticeable when they change the key for this song.
