    Union 2 for the 50th?

Some folks are happy with 2 bands, some would love them to join forces and play together for the 50th. I get the feeling if Jon Anderson really wanted a Union 2/50th celebration, the troops would fall into line. But I get the feeling some fuel the fire to keep it separate and can't stand each other. Wondering what your thoughts are?

At this point, I think the fans benefit more from two bands than they would forcing people that don't want to play with each other on stage. The various players are playing with people that they enjoy playing with now, and I'm hopeful that harmony will shine through the music - from both bands.

Re: Union 2 for the 50th?

I think you've said it best Erik, there really can't genuinely be a true Union 2 because Chris Squire wouldn't be there. My feeling is that having the two camps gives the fans the best opportunity to hear new music from both bands and it may actually spur them to up their game creatively. On the live front we may actually get Pat Moraz and Relayer from YesO with a double drum, double keyboard tour de force. That would certainly be worthy of the 50th. Who knows what YesF might cook up. I could envision them inviting celebrity musicians to beef up their lineup on select dates. Maybe we could see Taylor Hawkins, Geddy Lee, Alex Liefson, Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, Jordan Rudess, etc. link up with them on different dates to do some epic pieces (Close to the Edge, Endless Dream, Gates, etc.). You see where I'm going with this?

A lot of Yesmembers aren't there any more. Do you rule them out because it was Yesterday?

Have you ever wondered sometimes if the human waste is a race of time?

I agree for the most part. Sometimes a little fire on stage can be better than a cozy happy group. But after all these years it must be nice to finally be in bands with people you all get along with! Still would like to see them at least do 3-5 shows all together, for the fans, not the egos. Guess we'll see what is more important... Maybe Bill Gates will make it worth their while. Bruford may show up in that case!

Guess you are right Jay. Squire was the ONE that wanted to do something special with everybody for the 50th. A residency. He even mentioned something about Broadway!

If Yes brings in Moraz and another drummer for Relayer next year, that is going to be hard to top! And you know JA just might change his mind for something like that, or maybe not. Maybe he's happier playing tunes like Changes and Lift Me Up. I like those songs, but we're talking about a whole other level of music...

Like that wildcard idea you mention too! Something wild with guest appearances from Geddy, Alex, Taylor, etc. More surprises the better! Next year is going to be fun :)

Maybe if JA cracked some skulls and told Rick to go to his room! LOL

Yes indeed! If Moraz and another drummer join in the fun, it will be off the charts!

Doesn't really suit Rick or Trevor. But JA?? I sure would want to be there!

Get different past members to do guest spots. Benoit, Oliver, Igor, Patrick that would be cool.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be the first in line if they ever decided to do it. The RRHoF performance was amazing to watch (Even if it was Roundabout and Owner... AGAIN). For me, something magic happens when those particular musicians play together. But as I get older, I understand the importance of not being forced to work with folks who I simply don't enjoy. Life's way too short!

I think it comes from a growing distaste of Wakeman, both from members of Yes O as well as the more discerning fans

What better way to answer his nonsense?

I agree with all of this. The magic isn't worth the weirdness of being around each other... They used to know how to do it!

I think there is 0.1% chance. It seems life is too short at this point to put up with each other. Unless Ole' Teakbois comes around the corner with a huge doobie and takes Jon and Steve up into his tree house to hash it out...

IMHO, there is almost NO way ARW with Rabin on guitar can compete with Yes playing Relayer, especially if Moraz turns up. Unless they have some incredible new song in the works, which is possible....? On the level of Relayer? Not likely.

Re: Union 2 for the 50th?

I have no interest in a Union 2 tour. I see it as potentially having the following bad consequences-

    1. Ticket prices go up, meaning there is no chance I'd be able to go to any of the concerts (I'm priced out of this year's tours as it is).
    2. Some people who's music I enjoy are likely forced out or relegated to inconsequential roles in favor of people who's music I enjoy less.
    3. I would say that a combined group is less likely to produce 1 album than the 2 separate groups are to produce 2 separate albums. I'm all about new Yes albums.
    4. This could be seen as a grand finale type of thing, and a Yes that goes on long term afterwards is less likely if this happens than if Yes Official just keeps doing what it does.
    5. Let's face it, if Jon Anderson gains control of Yes again, he'll never let it go. It'll be Jon and his backup band, which isn't my vision of what Yes is or what I want it be in the future.
"A lot of the heavier conversations I was having with Chris toward the end were about his desire for this thing to go forward. He kept reiterating that to me. He kept telling me, ‘No matter what happens, Yes needs to continue moving forward and make great music. So promise me that that’s something you want to do.’ And I have to keep making music. It’s just what I do. I’m a fan of the band and I want to see it thrive and that means new music." -Billy Sherwood (Quote edited to fit under character limit for sig files)

This would be cool, I agree.

They don't want to join together again (save Jon who likes to be cagey) so therefore I don't want them to either. I don't see the point of it myself. I would like them each to do special things to mark the anniversary, but in their own fiefdoms, as it were.

YesO is pretty good and new blood REALLY helps. But for a grouping that didn't really rehearse I have yet to see-hear anything from YesO that rocked out quite like the RRHOF. For dudes that apparently have some issues they sounded great. Probably because they coudn't be prks in front of Geddy. So here it is. Start Yes50 at YYZ and kick it off with Rush members. Benoit can drop by and sing Tom Sawyer and FFH. Just let Anderson fall in with YesO and be done with it. Stop doing the casino crap I95 curcuit and play the ten biggest North American markets. Do the same in Europe. Two solitudes of Yes suks. Somewhere along the way, Miami, pick up Patrick for Relayer. Rick and Trevor can return to their preferred other things if it grinds their gears too much.
