Since I've been listening to a 90125 tour bootleg I'm very much into this period again, so yesterday I took out my 9012Live DVD and watched it and it had been a few years since the last time.
I found the interview footage and backstage footage to be very interesting. The guys seem to be very open in the interviews and it gives a pretty good idea of how things went down during that period and in the few years before, the break-up in '79 etc.

Some of the things that stroke me watching all this: people who don't like Rabin or that area often accuse him of wanting to be the rock star and doing the Eddie van Halen thing. So it was actually funny to see that it was quit the opposite; Rabin complaining after the gig that he feels 'city of love' is stretched out way too long, that he doesn't want to do this 'heavy metal ----', that it's nice for about 3 seconds, but not 3 minutes and that he gets bored, imagine what the audience must feel etc.
Also Trevor is a very funny guy. And what is clear from the interviews is that Jon and Chris were still having problems and Jon talks about sitting down and talking things out after the tour, but somehow I have the feeling this never really happened and we see the consequences of that to this day.
But as said, some good and interesting stuff here; comments and discussion welcome.

I got the DVD mainly for the behind-the-scenes stuff, and yes it was very interesting.
As for the concert, I think I've only watched Trooper. The rest, I'm afraid, just doesn't interest me.

Probably because it's already been talked about in years past, it's six years old now, after all. You know there's already an entire subforum for this release in the Yes On Video section, right?
But yeah, I'm really glad they agreed to include the behind the scenes stuff for the DVD, it's priceless. And the show itself is beautifully filmed, like I keep saying, "God bless you, Steven Soderburgh."
Trevor is very funny, sometimes it doesn't always come across in interviews but actually having talked to him a few times now I get that he's really good at the well-timed quip and so on (rendered in a completely deadpan tone, even), many times making fun of himself just because he knows it's good for a laugh.

I really enjoy all that footage of the guys. Very open and entertaining. They're all pumped up.
I like when Trevor admits Steve would be upset to see his songs power chorded with distortion.
He knows he's cheating and feels guilty. He did need to keep continuity with the 90125 guitar sound though.
Also, interesting to hear Anderson at that period speaking up for the classic Yes music,
mentioning the Tales album, and not disavowing that period. He says that he's a Yesfan!
Thats pretty damn cool. Overall rather intro and retrospective.

90125; a minor miracle it ever got finished and was good, an even bigger miracle that they managed a whole tour without a sacking
I actually put 90125 up with the best work they have done, I was referring to the 'back story' on how the album came about
I would love see this as a remastered theatre release along the same lines as Led Zeppelin's Celebration Day
still undefined

I don't know if the original uncut footage still remains in the vaults, but at least the rough cut of Roundabout was added to the DVD. Sadly, the multitracks were lost when the DVD was being re-released, so there was no proper 5.1 remix, just an upmix for surround which - to my ears - sounded inferior to the stereo mix. And for some very weird reason, the stereo audio of DVD was actually mono.
Yeah, if you can believe it the VHS tape actually has better sound! I would like a version of this concert without the audience cheering (is it canned applause?) so high in the mix. I haven't watched it for a while, but I think the bonus of Roundabout is free from the noise. A lot of people like the audience sounds, a la bootlegs, but I've always preferred soundboard quality.
Since the interviews were filmed before the last show of the tour I'd say all of the above.
The other footage illustrates - as it was filmed over at least one segment of the tour, possibly more - the ongoing dynamic, which is very interesting to me.
