Anyone have any thoughts? What non-Yes albums would you recommend to someone who loves 90125?
I might get a brick thrown at me but, try looking for the 1st ESQUIRE album. (ducks)
I'd agree with the eponymous Esquire debut. Rabin's Can't Look Away solo album is quite close. Also perhaps Eddie Jobson's The Green Album (as Zinc).

May be it's worth to listen to more or less prog albums from that years.
As example -
Rush "Power Windows"
Genesis "Invisible Touch"
I've never been entirely sure of the analogy...while they are both indicative of Trevor's style of composition/arrangement/playing, I'd say CLA is even more pop-oriented in some ways, but also very stylistically varied. Ezrin's production contributions are less domineering than Horn's (but still rather 80s-sounding, of course). But if one likes what Trevor did on 90125 then CLA is a good companion to it (and BigGen), certainly.
Yes! Rabin demos - 90124.
Manfred Mann's Earthband "Criminal Tango" - it's AOR album with prog elements, very positive.
Jethro Tull's Broadsword And The Beast from '82 is a good one. Under Wraps from '84 not so much.
Esquire is very close to what you want. Very underrated... smart pop done well.
I always thought 90125 and Rush's Power Windows were cut from similar cloth. But really, to me, 90125 was one of a series of interrelated and exemplary Trevor Horn projects that also included (Who's Afraid of...) The Art of Noise, Welcome to the Pleasuredome by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, A Secret Wish by Propaganda and Grace Jones' Slave to the Rhythm EP. All very highly recommended.
