Tom Brislin

Since the keyboard department within Yes has seen the most members, I thought it would be fun to have a thread ranking the Yes keyboardists from favorite to least favorite.
I have thought a bit about who to include, because members like Trevor Rabin and Billy Sherwood did quit a lot of keyboard work as well in the studio and Tom Brislin did a tour, but was never an official member.
So, finally I think we should rank the one's who were
1) both on studio albums as well as live on stage
2) official members
Those are, in order of appearance:
Tony Kaye
Rick Wakeman
Patrick Moraz
Geoff Downes
Igor Koroshev
Oliver Wakeman
So, rank those from favorite to least favorite and maybe explain a little what makes your ranking as it is.
The mind is like a parachute; it works much better when it's open.
1. Rick Wakeman (best all-around for Yes material, can choose poor sounds however and is prone to filling passages with notes)
2. Patrick Moraz (wonderful work on Relayer, love his jazzy style)
3. Geoff Downes (though I think he's perfect for Yes right now)
4. Igor Khoroshev (great player, shame about his off stage antics)
5. Tony Kaye (has played a large role in Yes and plays well, but sometimes lacked presence in the band, though I love his playing on TAAW)
6. Oliver Wakeman (not a bad keyboard player by any means but didnt play a big enough role in the band to be higher IMO)
listen, should we fight forever?
Knowing as we do know, fear destroys
Omitting Trevor Rabin is a huge oversight.
His studio keyboard work is far larger than Tony's in the YesWest years.

Igor Khoroshev (the most versatile and talented of them all. Shame he never got to develop musical partnerships in the band.)
Rick Wakeman (his sense of melody and 'musical narrative' was integral to the classic Yes tracks. He helped define the sound.)
Tony Kaye (not the most virtuoso player, but he always plays with real soul. The Yes Album rules)
Patrick Moraz (impressive chops on Relayer, but I was never a fan of what he did to the classic tracks live - a bit too modern jazz)
Geoff Downes (sorry, never that impressed with his choppy chord piano playing. I like Drama though).
Oliver Wakeman (not really fair as I never heard enough. He played all the right notes, but seemed a bit frozen in the headlights. He never got a chance to show what he could do).
I would put Tom Brislin high on the list if it was allowed.
Universe University
Patrick Moraz (IMO Yes' best keyboardist. Love his style and playing)
Geoff Downes (a really underrated keyboardist. Unlike Wakeman, I think Downes was better at using at the newer keyboards and synths that came out in the 80s and 90s)
Rick Wakeman (a great keyboardist both solo and Yes but only pre-Tormato)
Tony Kaye (one of the greatest hammond organ players, sadly not very good with synthesizers but I think he got better after the 90125 tour)
Oliver Wakeman (really good at capturing the styles of other Yes keyboardist (Tony, his father, and Geoff). Sounds great on In The Present Live from Lyon but on recordings post 2009 his keyboard playing sounded stiff)
Igor Khoroshev (can't really judge. Been a long time since I've listened to The Ladder or House of Blues so I can't form an opinion on him)
Well, all musicians has pros an cons, for me are all talented, Rick is the synth whizard and Tony does it with the Hammond best, in any case my list would show kind of a ballance between the qualities of them all..
Rick Wakeman
Tony Kaye
Trevor Rabin
Tom Brislin (I know is wasn't on the proposed list but I loved his job on Sinphonic live!)
Patrick Moraz
Geoff Downes
Olivier Wakeman
Igor Khoroshev
Let me add that is (inevitably) subjective!.. it's what I feel!![]()

"Send that instant karma to me"
From a keyboardist's perspective
1.Rick
2. Igor
3. Patrick
4. Tony
5. Trevor R
6. Geoff.
Two lists, if I would purely be judging on sheer musical talent, the list would look like this:
1) Igor Koroshev
2) Patrick Moraz
3) Rick Wakeman
4) Geoff Downes
5) Tony Kaye
6) Oliver Wakeman
If I would make a list concerning what they did keyboardwise for Yes and Yesmusic it would look like this:
1) Rick Wakeman
2) Tony Kaye
3) Geoff Downes
4) Patrick Moraz
5) Igor Koroshev
6) Oliver Wakeman

RICK FOR OBVIOUS REASONS
PATRICK BECAUSE RELAYER IS F**KING BRILLIANT AND HE IS TECHNICALLY AMAZING
IGOR BECAUSE HE IS TECHNICALLY DOMINANT OVER THE REST, (below) AND PROBABLY AT
LEAST AS GOOD AS RICK AND PATRICK
OLIVER BECAUSE HE CAN PLAY ANY OF THEIR STYLES, WITH A FLAIR ALL HIS OWN
GEOFF BECAUSE I THINK HE IS BETTER THAN TONY
TONY BECAUSE HE IS A GREAT ORGANIST, AN AVERAGE PIANIST, HIS 80'S INPUT WAS LARGELY
TRIGGERING SAMPLES ONLY
RECENTLY HAS SHOWN MORE TECHNICAL APLOMB IN CIRCA. STILL I THINK HE IS THE
WEAKEST MUSICIANSHIP-WISE ALTHOUGH HIS ORGAN
PLAYING IS ROCK ORGAN AT IT'S BEST
TOM BRISLIN GETS HONORABLE MENTION BECAUSE HE TOO COULD PLAY ALL THEIR STYLES PERFECTLY

Ranking the Wakemans top due only because of their arian lady-boy looks is so typically stupid.

1: Trevor Rabin - my favourite keyboard-player, wish he would return soon on keyboards and guitar of course
2: Rick Wakeman from Fragile to Tales
3: Patrick Moraz
4: Tony Kaye
5: Billy Sherwood on Open Your Eyes
6: Igor Khoroshev
7: Geoff Downes - one great album, Drama, and one mediocre, FFH
8: Tom Brislin - I would love, if he returns as a regulary keboard-player
9: Oliver Wakeman
10: Rick Wakeman on Going For The One, Tormato, ABWH and Keys, too much superficial notes and - even worse - too much cheap sounding notes, sounds
