So what's next?

Well with the North american summer tour done I am curious with what people think is going to happen next for yes...


I want to get three things out of the way

1. some joker is going to post how he isn't Nostradamus or post some silly nonesense on how hilary duff will join and make telephone secrets the greatest yes album ever... I already did both in this post so no need for you to post thanks.

2. Also Let's not get extreme the band as far as I know is in good health and good spirits they like each other and like playing and touring and still can so let's not say "what if they die or break up" as No one wants either to happen

3. I don't think the yes residency is feasable or going to happen next year. if it does I will create a thread claiming how wrong i was no problem.



so what does that leave us with

A tour

going into the studio for a new album



Let's look at these options in an educated guess kind of way starting with A tour


Steve and Geoff may love the material Jon and Chris have but still want to tweak it during rehearsals Also geoff said earlier on that an album wasn't high priority. Plus Davison is unproven in the European and South American markets. And they could still have an album out in 2013 if the do say a winter european tour focusing on recording from say lat march to early jul and having the album out in the fall (or perhaps even later... on my birthday perhaps lol you know now that i think about it how cool would it be to have a yes album come out on your birthday!)



Now lets look at the reasons why Yes going into the studio next is likely

First obviously they have material Henry's Site says Squire davison and white have 5 new songs and there might be even more from just Squire and Davison and Howe and Downes might have worked on some new stuff in May. We assume all they did was work on America and Awaken but since no one was there they may (I said may not definitly) have written some stuff and this is all excluding the huge backloge of unreleased material from Squire White Howe and downes and possibly even Davison. Plus Squire and white seem very keen on doing a new album with Squire going as far as to say That is how he sees 2013 starting with yes in the studio.. Alan also said he hoped to have an album out BEFORE the next US tour.



Orignally i was gonna go for an album first but Mr holland I may have gone over to your side imagine the new yes album is released on my birthday December 1st 2013 I turn 27 and get a new yes album How cool would that be I did see the ladder tour on my birthday in 99 which was very cool..


oh and yeah i know the next few months are designated to solo stuff and an asia tour this is about yes not the side projects.

i voted for album but wouldn't be surprised or upset with a european tour honestly.

Well, you've got 2/5th (Howe/Downes) of the band doing a tour with Asia that begins on September 2 and goes to December 22 (and possibly beyond if they add dates), right on top of the Yes tour they've been doing, following all of which it's just possible that they might want some time to unwind. Davison might do something to promote the upcoming Glass Hammer album, though I hear they don't really like to play live. Squire might do something with Squackett. I don't know what White's got going on.

I'd be surprised if Yes got in the studio to record a new album or hit the road for another tour until March 2012 at the earliest. Probably later. You could see a live album based on this summer's tour, but I doubt it- they just put out a live album fairly recently.

You just never know with Yes, they could resurface next summer in some form with a radically different lineup or something. It's way too early to say.

Anyhow, my hope is that they go into the studio before touring. I'll be able to buy a new album, I probably won't be able to afford to see them on tour. Besides, I think I'd be more positively predisposed to hearing original songs by the current lineup than hearing Davison attempt to be Anderson on Anderson's songs. Once Davison is singing his own original Yes material that was composed for him and that he had a role in shaping, it may seem more natural or better. He can't be a better Jon Anderson than Jon Anderson, but I'm pretty sure he's the best Jon Davison out there.

of if anyone is wondering why I am throwing myself into the future posts so much it's largely due to the sucky situation my present is which is why I prefer to look at condos apply for jobs go out on dates and think of the next yes album out of some inane hope the future would be better.

I don't think either will happen. Possibly more Asia tour dates and maybe Squackett tour dates in Winter/Spring. I think FFH tour should end now this year and release a DVD of one of their concerts with Davison. Nice if they did go in the studio in Jan./Feb. but all parties in the band will probably take a break. I definitely hope they will do another album but probably later in the 2013 year. Who knows? It is all about scheduling.

I would love a new cd but my guess is tour as that's where the money is and they seem to be having a great time out on the road. It would be great to see them out on the road testing out new material prior to recording. Not sure if they have done this in the past (Aliens for Squire). Oh of course Fly From Here the performed.

I can see them resting from touring/side projects. Then working on new ideas for an album 1st. :-)
