Personally I don't give a rats a$$ whether a song they release had it's original idea 40 years ago or two days ago. To me FFH, the suite, sounds new, even the We Can Fly From Here part, since I never took much notice of the demo versions and because about 14 minutes of 'new' music were added to it. I love 'Mind Drive' as well, all though it's a little too padded in some places, but then again that has got nothing to do with the basis of the song originating about 14 years before it's release.

There is however one other reason I am not particulary keen on the current line-up have a go at 'go through this' and that is that I feel it would not fit Jon Davison. To me Davison doesn't sound much like a rock and roller, which is exactly the sort of song GTT is. Davison strikes me more as a 'wonderous stories', 'Awaken' kind of guy i.e. a little more gentle and subtile, so I would think if he writes for an album, we get more something in the style of those songs. The Glass Hammer albums he is on do not strike me as very hard rocking either.

I agree. I personally think the whole "using an old song / rehashing an old song" argument is rubbish. They performed WCFH and Go Through This but it wasn't released. Only the diehards heard the songs via demos or concert bootlegs or those who bought the The Word is Live boxset. On Van Halen's new album a number of tracks are tracks he wrote in the 1970s and that album has been very well recieved. Of course people b*tch when they heard that bit of news but when the album came out those comments went away. For those who use the "rehashing old songs" argument you're really clutching at straws. Oh and the "Thez are Boggles sonzs!" argument is also getting old. My response: So? The Buggles are awesome. They help make a kickass Yes album in 1980 and they made one in 2011.
I would love for them to use Telephone Secrets as it was my favorite song from the XYZ sessions and the last one left to be used (Page used Fortune Hunter for a Firm album which Chris almost sued him for because he wasn't credited but when the Firm album flopped and 90125 was a hit there was no need).

I have no objection to using ideas that have been around for a while, even years - a good idea is a good idea. But I'm glad there is new creative collaboration going on. Now if Jon D and Steve would write together as well, then we could have lift off. Their performing compatibility on Leaves Of Green during this tour is obvious, but unfortunately I don't think Steve hangs out with the rest of the band much between gigs. He's going straight into the Asia tour next month, then presumably back home to Devon for Christmas/New Year. Does anyone know how he personally gets on with Jon D? He's obviously energized by the solid lead singing at the gigs like the rest of the band, but is there any personal chemistry as there obviously is with Chris?

In an interview Steve stated that Jon was a good guitar player wow that is praise coming from Mr Howe so that's a positive.

I'm not sure Telephone Secrets is Steve Howe's cup of tea. It is quit far from his usual style.

Telephone Secrets - ok, but I'm not that bothered.
Go Through This - no thank you, it's just no good.
    New material - yes please.
Trevor Horn - preferably not this time.

Uhm Steve originally played on it. Listen to song 4 (satalite) to get a feel of Howe on the piece

I wonder if Jon D. could do the guitar in concert for some of the YesWest material Steve doesn't like to play. Might be a way to bring back some songs without upsetting the apple cart. Pitch to Howe as a chance for him to catch a breather and a sip of water (These concerts from to exhausting for performers of all ages, but especially guys who have been on planet earth for 5-6 decades plus).

Worries about Davison not having the voice for lead for some new harder rock YES-songs/music in the future? Have no worries, Steve Howe has that covered.

I think you might be misinterpreting Steve's comment.

My understanding (and I could be wrong) is that Jon's a good guitar player of the acoustic / rhythm electric variety, not a lead player or shredder. If that is the case, a lot of the easier to play Yeswest stuff would be possible, but the soloing on Cinema or Owner would still be a problem.

I think Steve see's Jons playing as allowing them to replicate studio multitrack guitar parts, not as a Sherwoodesque Rabin replacement.

Have you heard Steve sing live ? As a singer, he's a hell of a guitar player : it's a bit like the noise you get when you try to staple two cats together...

Rob was kidding. One thing I hope if they do finish another song from the early 80's. I hope the first single is a song we haven't heard before.
