I think my iMac display is too big

I have a 27 inch display on my iMac. Got it in March. I had previously been using a G5 with a 23 inch display, which for years everyone envied (size matters apparently).

I can't seem to get an ergonomically comfortable position with this iMac. My neck inevitably is sore after looking up much of the time. It's as if it's too high top to bottom. Anyone else have this problem?

Yeah, true enough. But it's the tool of my trade and it's causing physical problems such as dizziness and neck ache.

    Sorry................

Do you have a pneumatic desk chair? Is it at its maximum height? Or perhaps the desk is too tall and you need a shorter one?

Seriously, that's no good. I wish I had a more professional solution for you, but my idea is to sit the screen sitting on a "countersunk" surface relative to your actual work surface, if you see what I mean.

Good thoughts. I tried a higher chair, my pneumatic one doesn't go high enough. It's really just too damn big. I thought about tying in my old monitor to it.

I guess it's better to be eye level with the top and look down for the bottom portion.

    Ya bastids.

I had my 2nd studio monitor on a wall mount with an arm, good for tweaking position.
For graphics, it was good for getting up close for detail, or pushing away for " the big picture ",
sort of like stepping back from a painting.

The first joint on the arm-- the 180 degree joint nearest the wall-- is SERIOUSLY hard to move on both units. It's like it's overtightened, or totally lubricated. While the other joints float easily, to pivot on the first joint I need to grab it directly and maneuver it with one hand, while holding the monitor with the other hand to make sure it doesn't swing into my other monitor or the wall or something. It makes the rear joint nearly useless, costing me several degrees of freedom. Adding silicone lube didn't help, and I'm not going to loosen the joint without Ergotron signing off that it will still be secure. Initially, I only took off one egg, but after some consideration, I'm giving this a "3". This seems like a really egregious oversight to me-- they obviously CAN make good joints, as evidenced by... the other joints on the arm.

So, that seriously needs to get fixed.

Other Thoughts: My only other minor issue is fastening options. It'd be nice if Ergotron included or sold an adapter (like those which come with the MX to adapt different mounting hole widths) to allow the arm to attach to the monitor off center. The arm adds a lot of height, and I am restricted in how I can mount it, so it would be nice to be able to lower the arm just a bit. I wouldn't take an egg off for this--it's a really specific problem-- I'm just sayin'.

Actually, this seems to tally with Apple's advice:

    http://www.apple.com/about/ergonomics/vision.html

When I worked though, the Health & Safety (for it is they) recommendation was that eye level should be at the centre of the screen.

Incidentally, sorry I didn't come in on this earlier but I've been spending the day watching widescreen porn.
