What is the best song on the Summer 2012 tour?

...and I don't mean which song you generally like best, but which song is the best performance on this tour. Vote in the poll and explain in a post.

Re: What is the best song on the Summer 2012 tour?

I hate the song America and don't care for it all when Jon Anderson sings it. That being said, the guys really blew me away with their performance/rendition of it this time around. They really made the song special and the song was well suited in having everyone in the band shine alone and collectively. It was a huge and pleasant surprise for me and I will admit that when I read that they were going to probably be playing it in the set-list this tour, I groaned to myself. Wasn't the first time and def. won't be the last time I will be wrong but this song whether a Paul Simon song or not, had all the YES-music magic that happily drew me into the rest of the show. 2012 and YES ( Chris, Steve, Alan, Geoff and Jon) are still surprising me and making me smile. :-) Go, YES!

( Seriously, I loved all of the songs they played, and all for different reasons and I had just as much fun watching how each song affected others in their own way. Not a bad one in the bunch although it's always easy to single out the first song as it's usually not 100% but it's always the projectile/ the first shot that gets the guys going. I will also admit that I knew YES better deliver the goods following an amazing Procol Harum and they did just that and then some.)

Only a true YESfan gets "it". Go, YES!

You need to vote then, 'cause I only see one vote for 'America' so far.

Two votes for FFH Suite btw.....

Re: What is the best song on the Summer 2012 tour?

Fly From Here got my vote. Very grateful I got to see that as I can't imagine it will be rolled out again. Sad Night at the Airfield, particularly was the highlight for me. Yes could continue to make albums in the vein of Sad Night and I would be perfectly happy. That sound/mood/vibe suits them well in their current incarnation. (thank you Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes). I wish Anderson the very best, but I don't believe I would be as excited about Yes right now if he were still in the band and writing for them.
(15+ shows for me since Union tour)

"Sad Night at the Airfield" was tear-inducing. Thus, my vote goes to the suite.
Yesshows: 3-12-11 (Rite of Spring, Orlando), 7-15-11 (Fly From Here, Orange Beach), 7-28-12 (Fly From Here, St. Augustine)

Re: What is the best song on the Summer 2012 tour?

Although it has never been my favorite epic, my vote goes for Awaken. It took a lot of courage to try to capture the feeling of this song with a new singer, and Yes did a great job. Alan looked like he was so into this at the show I saw. Like someone else noted on another site, it was like seeing the Yes album group perform this, as it was performed a little less grandiosely than I ever saw it before. Maybe because of Jon and Rick's absence, maybe because the new group is more guitar oriented, I am not sure why.

They obviously rehearsed very hard to get this right, as if they feel they still have something to prove. That mindset gives me hope that they will attempt other rarely played songs in the future. I got the feeling that they wanted, with this song more than any other song on this tour, to give back something in a big way.

I think you have captured the feeling of Awakan this tour is word very well.

I'm torn between 'America' and 'Awaken', and that is ofcourse judging from the various boots I've listened to. 'Leaves of Green' gets special mention. I feel Jon Davison truely brings out the emotion in that little piece.

Fly from here suite such a brilliant song... Hopefully they will still play it next time around... if not hopefully they will play Into The Storm.
The Current lineup is Chris Squire Alan White Geoff Downes Steve Howe and Jon Davison and according to Geoff Downes who told me personally they WILL RELEASE A NEW ALBUM NEXT SPRING. END OF DISCUSSION

I actually voted for HOTS. Tough choice as imho they played everything really well but I had goose bumps for the entire song when I saw them in Detroit.

Heee....someone voted Tempus Fugit. I actually think that is the song they performed least well on this tour. Now I probably will be slaughtered for saying this, but from the various recordings I have been listening to it does seem that even with the slower tempo Steve is having problems with this song, timing problems mainly, he comes in late with certain parts, sometimes misses notes.......I think this should be the first song on the 'considering dropping' list....

Re: What is the best song on the Summer 2012 tour?

"Heart of the Sunrise" is kind of a warhorse and gets played a lot, but it has consistently been my favorite live track for a long time. It was kinda tough going with some of the live versions from 08-11, but this time around it positively shimmered. I still don't think they quite have a firm handle on "Awaken" even though it looks to be running away with this poll. To me it sounds almost, but not quite there, like they can get so far with it, but can't kick it up to the next notch to go over the top with it.

Awaken was my favorite for many reasons, FFH suite and America close 2nd. Awaken contained such great playing, an arrangement that allowed individual virtuosity, was been held up as a measuring stick for Geoff and Jon. A+ grades for everybody. Please keep playing it next tour. While I'm at it, thanks to all the folks for pictures, videos and enthusiastic reviews of this GREAT Yestour.
