    Yes on Vinyl is GOD!!!

ok, ok, ive always heard Nothing but BAD re-masters of every Yes LP out there once it gets to CD. even the early 80's ones sound 'clangy' and 'tinny'. what has happened to the Yes Back-Catalogue on all the years of re-issues & re-masters just sounds HORRIBLE, to my ears. get yourself a 2nd-hand copy of any of their RECORDS, play them on a decent stereo system, and youre in for a Treasure.

i have all the OG vinyl ive collected over the years as far as official LP's go, and now im finally getting into collecting 45's & Promo copies. ive had quite a few Atlantic Label 45s ive rescued from 'junk-shops' over the years, but ive gotten quite a few things in the last week that have made me , literally, Dance around my living room while they are Blasting.

heres 2 of them. these 2 are a Treasure to behold..

the original Vinyl sounds so so much Warmer & intense. the CD versions are so Trebly and 'clangy' sounding and just give me a headache.

if anyone wants to get another copy of the above-posted "and you and i" 45, the person i got this from has about 10 more copies available-

you have no idea the absolut Majesty of this song until you hear the mastering of this 45...

i have about a dozen other Yes 45s i can talk about here, and have bought about 15 other Yes Promo-Only 45s in the last week, and i will be more than happy to take pictures and comment on their contents, once they arrive.

Almost without exception, vinyl is warmer.

In the case of Yes, I agree that the CD masterings lack the warmth and depth of the mixes on vinyl. With any luck, a final re-issue program will deal with this.

Some of the recent CD mixes of old jazz records of mine are the opposite, interestingly: warmer, cleaner, stronger. Part of being a music junkie, I suppose.

for real!!! i have quite a few Punk reissues on CD, and even some of those sound 'warmer' and more intense that the original vinyl versions, but chalk that up to cheap/bad mastering in the first place.

my personal 'gripe' with Yes on CD is every version ive ever owned/bought just sounds NOTHING like the Original LP's. they actually sound Awful, in comparison.

is it Really too much to ask that the CD Mastering Engineers just take the original 2-track 'Production Masters' that the original Vinyl was made from, and just 'cut' those; As They Are???

The "CD Boom" is long over, so maybe audiophiles who know the original material will get involved and insist on mastering or re-mixing w/ care.

Not that we are gonna see a bunch of the stuff come out, but Steven Wilson's recent "dust off" of the King Crimson & Jethro Tull material is hopeful- it sounds really, really good.

spent the last 2 hours spinning my old & battered Yes 45s with my girlfriend. she even commented on how much more 'real' these sound in comparison to the cd versions i put on her laptop ages ago, even though they are severely edited versions.

and digging thru my literally Tens-Of-Thousands of 45s i have stored away, i found i have 3 copies of "roundabout" b/w "long distance runaround" USA Atlantic in Atlantic Label Factory sleeves. i knew i had at least 1, but my 'hoarding' instinct when i hit junk-shops...i really want to get a copy of "Soon" b/w "Sound Chaser" to see the differences in mix/editing/etc that one contains.

Re: Yes on Vinyl is GOD!!!

    in the mailbox yesterday-

"Release Release" b/w "Don't Kill The Whale" USA Atlantic 'blue' label promo 45
"I Am A Camera" (stereo) b/w "I Am A Camera" (mono) USA Atlantic promo 45

Release Release 45 is true to the original LP versions, but has a more 'compact' sound that i can only chalk-up to 45 mastering. and it sounds Phenominal.

I Am A Camera (Into The Lens) has some really eff'd-up edits and a really strange fade-in at the beginning.whoever was in charge of making the 'radio edit' of this one had no idea what they were doing. but to my ears, the Mono side is the winner. it really sounds good. even made me go and dig out my Carerre-label version 45 of The Buggles "I Am A Camera" 45 to compare. pretty much accurate sounding, but Alan White's drumming compared to a drum-machine really brings this song to new heights. and it made me realize what i already knew. the "Drama" version of this song is an absolute CLASSIC, on par with anything Yes has ever done. For Real.
