Really sorry to hear that, man. As far as songs go, I'd suggest maybe "Endless Dream"...I don't know if the song has the same resonance for you as it does for me, but the ending section of Part II ("When the world brings you down...") is not bad for this kind of situation.

You a Genesis fan, by any chance? There are a lot of great post-breakup songs in their catalog.
Yesshows: 3-12-11 (Rite of Spring, Orlando), 7-15-11 (Fly From Here, Orange Beach), 7-28-12 (Fly From Here, St. Augustine)

How about the B-side of the 45 of Changes entitled "Katy sucks ass, it was fun while it lasted, just memories of my life, time to move on". Move on, Danny, she certainly has. No pain-no gain. Learn from and enjoy the next experiences. Plenty of wonderful women out there to help you grow more and experience what we call life. Enjoy yourself and others before you finally settle down. ;-)

'Soon' is quite sad and may help you let it all out.

Katy broke up with you? Lemme have a word with that girl.
Cargo of diamonds as you are: nothing more valuable, nothing more tough.

She's an equal opportunity offender, a societal wildcard. You can't control her, only hope to contain her, even then she refuses to be possessed. If she were a coin, you would spend her, unwillingly. If she were an animal, you'd free her to the wilderness.

Hmmmmmm...Tough call as I never listened to Yes for that sort of thing. My go to band for wallowing in angst and rejection was always Pink Floyd..."I don't need your arms around me..." Yeah, take that!!!!! I'd throw on whatever angry, self-pity filled, melodramatic type music I could find.

So my recommendation would be to hold off on the Yes and maybe spin some Floyd (The Wall and Animals especially), Sex Pistols, Tool, NIN "...bow down before the one you serve. You're gonna get what you deserve..." thrashy Metallica, move on to Billie Holiday, Radiohead, The Smiths, Roy Orbison and Nick Drake when anger turns to melancholy and then go for the Yes after that.

Re: Best post break up yes songs

I've probably lost girls because of Yes music, and then I'd drink. It's easy to say you'll find some spiritual support from Yes to get you back on track, but honestly, Yes is a long way off at that point and quite frankly, I'd have none of it.

I remember listening to Nirvana (In Utero), Porno for Pyros, Blind Melon, Live and even Gin Blossoms...and of course, anything that was playing in the club or bar. I remember this well, as that was the only time I kinda, sorta, well, ...had my heart torn out, although it was my fault. I never gave enough to the relationship and it was a girl that was worth more, and we tried to work it out, but then it was done for good.

Funny enough, after like 20 years, she contacted me on Facebook and we chat...and so it's cool, and I have not one iota of strong emotional attachment to her at all. She has a nice life. I have a nice life, but neither of us would care to be together again.

But, but...to get back to the question...after all that, when I felt stronger, it was stuff like Awaken, Gates, Parallels, stuff that picked up my crazy spirit, and reminded myself who I am, because in those times, we lose our sense of self. Everything is topsy turvy for a while and you question yourself too much. At first I need to be angry, not introspective or spiritually strong.

"From time, the great healer, the Machine Messiah is born."

Time and fun and hanging out with friends and family is the real music you need.

I think, when you're ready, "Changes" and 90125 in general might be nice. Not a lot of darkness there. Yes positivity and direct energy to get you through.

The cherry on the sundae is that when you are ready to see other girls, make sure you have some fun for awhile. The rebound sh*t is OK, but I think it's better that you meet some fun girls for a while, before going back into the fire.

Echloyn, The End is Beautiful. All kinds of turgid angst on that album to cleanse your soul of the woman.

Sorry to hear that Danny - to be honest, any Yessong has gotta be good, cos it uplifts the heart - but what about Perpetual Change - that jaunty jazzy quitar & the jamming break. Fabulous song. Was listening to a great version today featuring Dylan Howe, thanks to Tidewater (caroline).

Awww man, sorry to hear that. I had my own crisis like this back in march 2010. I put a similar post to this up and got much the same sort of replies. What overwhelmed me was the love and support from my fellow Yesfans and you should know you have that in spades.

There's always a happy ending though, when you least expect it. In early 2011 I started talking to a young lady called Konira on here, the rest is history....

You are a sweet guy and if you wanna talk or vent on FB then I'm there for you buddy *brohug*

Re: Best post break up yes songs

And Danny: what I've learned is that every relationship I will be in - except maybe one - will end.

In the past year, I've endured both the end of a marriage (20 year relationship) and a girlfriend (1 year). Bizarrely, the girlfriend was the tougher breakup, because she was (I thought) the future, and the wife was the past.

But what I've also found is that whenever I go through a breakup, in 6 to 12 months I've met someone better, and I'm glad I broke up because otherwise I couldn't have met the better person.

It's hard to believe today, but there's a reason you broke up, and someday you'll met a better woman. I'm twice your age, so I've been there... This too shall pass.

    Future times/rejoice.

Sorry about your break up, Danny.

I can't suggest any songs though.

How about that old classic "Discussing Break Ups on the Internet is Never a Good Idea"? LOL Just kidding, what about Turn of the Century? When I'm sad sometimes I find it's best to wallow in it and that's a good one for that.
