Re: Thread for UK Yesfans - Part 21

Just listening to Producers album Made in Basing Street for the first time. I found the opening track Freeway (which I had just listened to on Youtube) very catchy and got straight into it. This made me want to hear the rest of the album. Overall it's a pretty decent album, but while three, maybe four, of the tracks have immediate appeal, I found most of the others either unappealing or just ... wait for it ... meh. Will give it another listen or two (on Spotify) but doubt I'll go as far as to buy it.

    Close of play 208-5.

Considering we were 54-4 at one stage, that's quite a decent day with the bat in the end for England.

    The game currently finely poised.

A question for the Lizard Man or the Dark Lord: do England have to win this game to remain the world's number one team or will a draw suffice?

A win would tie the series, which would be enough to stay no. 1.

Doesn't seem likely at this point though.

Thanks. I did realise a win for England would tie the series, just wondered if this test ended in a draw and SA won the series 1-0 would that be enough to make them world number 1 or would they need to win it 2-0 for that. I take it from what you said that 1-0 would suffice.

Yes 1-0 will suffice for SA to become no. 1
1-1 will suffice for England to remain no. 1

i.e we have to win they only have to draw this final test.

Can South Africa live up to their "chokers" tag, and lose their should-be-inevitable grasp on the no.1 ranking?

Well what an inglorious start to the season. Beaten by WBA led by our ex head coach. Fekkin' brilliant beginning for the New
Regime. They better turn this round pdq or I can predict what the Kop will be calling for... & it won't be to give Brendan more time.

Arsenal hardly set off into a glorious new era either...

    Hey ho

Oh & by the way - ONE guy has coughed up the entire Server Cost for this month, it seems- $260 in one hit. That's amazing. C'mon, let's all chip in a bit to build up the fund for Oct, so poor old Tim doesn't have to get the begging bowl out again....

Unfreakin' believable. Here we go again. New manager but same old same old. With our next three home games (City, The Arse and The Rags) being just about the tuffest start to a season I can ever remember, we could well find ourselves propping up the table after the first half dozen games or so.

Ironic indeed that we should be beaten by a team managed by our old coach from last season - and also the team who Rodgers just left start their campaign with a thumping 5-0 trouncing away from home! "It's a funny old game" somebody once said. Well I sure ain't laffin'.

Gotta hold the faith, I suppose, Paul, but it don't bode well... & if this 'brave new vision' don't work out, where do Hicks & Gillete, - sorry Henry & whatsisface go next? Back to the future? Rafa the gaffer?

    God 'elp us!

Got to say folks, having watched the game, I thought LFC were the better team.

The sending-off at only 1-0 down was the turning point.

How many times could we have said this last year, tho?

More details of what I shall not call Pieterson's Textgate emerging. He is being revealed as a prima Donna figure, not much liked in many of the dressing rooms where he's had a locker. Disruptive. & from a scoring perspective, I've always found him inconsistent. He believes in his talent - that much can be said.

Let's hope we have a good day today.
