Stilla ctive and unfolding... At a Sikh temple.. Multiple gunmen reported.... Officer shot one gunman, Officer wounded.. At least 3 inside temple shot... Reports of many more shot... Possibility of more gunmen inside temple... Early report indicated a white heavy set male shooter... Latest report is a total of 7 deceased, 4 inside, 3 outside 1 being a suspect, with at least others in hospital.

A mass shooting took place in the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin, Patch reported.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning in Oak Creek.

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, witnesses say that as many as 30 people may have been shot. CNN reports that at least one person, a shooting suspect, has been killed.
Police Chief Bradley Wentlandt said he doesn't know how many victims or how many suspects are involved. He said one suspect shot at police before being taken down by law enforcement.
The AP confirmed the shooting.
WISN reports that there are still people inside the temple in what may be a hostage situation. A witness told the Journal-Sentinel some of the reported hostages may be children.

At the moment, the motives for the shooting are not clear.

The Oak Creek Patch reported last August:

State Rep. Josh Zepnick and District Attorney John Chisholm visited the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin, 7512 S. Howell Ave., on Sunday to discuss public safety issues in the Sikh community.

Satwant Singh Kaleka, president of the Sikh Temple, requested the meeting after the July 4 melee in Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood, according to a news release from Zepnick's office. Those incidents included the looting of at least one Sikh-owned business.

Singh Kaleka told local officials that what was seen in Riverwest has become too common at gas stations and convenience stores owned by members of the Sikh community. Many businesses and workers have been the victims of robberies and vandalism, he said.

Indeed, the only thing I've sen or heard anywhere is that the suspect was a white heavy set bald male with tatoos... And those are unconfirmed. Fox propaganda channel just reported that the FBI had raided a house in the area a couple hours ago, so they obviously know who the perp is.

A lot of coverage has been given to the fact that in the US, Sikhs are often confused as Muslims and have attracted hate from various quarters.

Well, nobody knows the religion (or not) of the perpetrator yet so judgement is best reserved.

But, having said that, I have a feeling, and it is not a good one, that eventually there'll be a bit of a ganging up on the atheists by the less tolerant religions. It's sad, really, because all atheism is NOT believing in something; it's not a prescription for a way of life.

It's very hard for a lot of people to grasp that it is possible not to believe in a god of some description.

I had to look up the reference, Pete. If you don't mind my asking, Pete, and it is a bit off topic, I know you are agnostic but is it a reaction to religion or just that you don't 'feel' god exists? For me, it's not so much a reaction to religion (although a lot of it sucks) but a general no 'feeling' that there is a god, if you know what I mean.
