Steve Howe seems to have diff thoughts on this topic? Confusing.

As for Yes, Squire and drummer Alan White tell ABC News Radio they hope the band will record a new album with Davison next year.
“[Davison is] capable of it and, he’s got song ideas,” maintains White. “Yeah, [it] looks like he’ll be a great addition to the creative process moving forward.”
Adds Squire, “He’s a writer as well, unlike Benoit…So, that’s gonna be a bonus.”
Ok after haveing a horrible week This is finnaly something I can be happy about.
Ok Skeptics go ahead tear this quote apart. Come on I dare you.
ALAN WHITE PUTS OUT THERE YES HAS NEW MATERIAL END OF DISCUSSION
Now before people bring up the steve howe comments of today
"Both Yes men say there’s an appetite to get more new material in motion, but it won’t necessarily come soon. Squire recently released the first album by Squackett, his side project with former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett, while Howe and current Yes keyboardist Geoff Downes will be on the road this fall with their other band, Asia, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary and a new album, “XXX.” Howe — who also released a solo album called “Time” this year — in particular feels that Yes “wasn’t really as ready to make a record as we thought we were” with “Fly From Here,” which he says will factor into what the group does next. “I would say (a new album) is blowing in the wind,” Howe says, “but I don’t want to put out something just to feel like it’s a follow-up record. I want it to feel like an opportunity to do a style of music, a certain project, an adventure. “I don’t think we’re there yet at all, so I think it’ll take a long time to be ready for another record — which is fine so long as it serves the purpose of making a better album.”"
it does seem like mixed messages But think Steve is cautious Yes wants to do another album anyone who doesn't see that isn't getting the full message but I think Steve wants to make sure the next album is amazing.
Still the big news is yes does have some new music!
The Current lineup is Chris Squire Alan White Geoff Downes Steve Howe and Jon Davison and according to Geoff Downes who told me personally they WILL RELEASE A NEW ALBUM NEXT SPRING. END OF DISCUSSION

Alan is always the optimist..![]()
In any case...... I think what Howe meant, was that they had ideas going in, but those ideas after the first few weeks wern't fidning their way and panning out the way they'd hoped. They went in with a more less set amount of time on thie first set of sessions, but didnt' get all that far with what they had..... Towards the end of the first 6 week period when Horn was indeed 100% on board, and Downes was also 100% replacing Oliver, they changed gears, the material they already had just wasn't coming together in a cohesive way. So they shifted to more of the FFH idea
So that's what Howe is talking about there... They thought they had a pretty good set of ideas, but they just wern't' working the way they thought they would....

I'm not sure who's more dangerous, the band or the fans.....
Steve Howe sounds like Pete Townshend by attempting to minimize the most recently released album. I don't see what Steve's point is. To explain what they might do next, there's no real need to re-cast Fly From Here in a negative light. The band's different, so the next album will be different, or should be different. That's all he really needed to say.
I am still happy that yes has new material![]()

Where are you getting this notion? I read your OP and all I gather is that Davison has some musical ideas, what am I missing, what "material" do they have? Anyone can get ideas...

^This. Davison has "ideas"........long way from new songs.

Agreed. I am sure most musicians have some musical "ideas" running through their heads nearly all the time but it is a far cry from actual material.
If someone posting on this site has a musical idea about an expanded Telephone Secrets, does that mean he/she has material?
They made a stride forward in confidence w FFH. Whatever you think of it, it was brave to attempt a 'suite' of 20+ minutes, which while not a single piece of music, is at least thematically linked & develops across it's length.
My feeling is that the previous material from the initial sessions was probably a bit too 'retro-prog' - Yes pastiching themselves. Sme of us would have liked that, in all probability, but with Horn at the helm they went a more 'commercial' route.
If you want to speculate what Jon D might bring to the mix in terms of song writing, go listen to Glass Hammer's Cor Cordium, which was apparently more of a band effort in terms of songwriting than it's predecessor If. I believe he wrote the lyrics to Dear Daddy - which I have to say I find a bit like some of Jon As solo work (ie for me, not my favourite stuff) but the track does develop nicely & overall 'Cor' is a strong album.
So, in summary we can be optimistic, but clearly Howe would like to do something more 'progressive' than just reel off FFH 2 - which is a great thing, I think. But one thing is clear - it's some time away yet.
Saving the planet, one beer at a time...
Would it be controversial for me to say that without Jon Anderson they don't have "Napoleon" to drive them to where they want to be when writing music?

I wouldn't take one over the other.
There are times I can't stand 'Show Me' as a song..
I wouldn't take BR as a 'stand alone' song either...Thankfully it's not meant to be.
I guess I would've had the FFH suite flow more cognantly together as more of
one piece of music (like CTTE)...but....hindsight is always 20/20..LOL!
Kind of amazing that both songs came from older ideas...But
from 2 very different sources.
I don't think that Steve is being negative about FFH. It doesn't grab me big time, but he was reportedly happy with it. I just read him as saying he doesn't think they should do the same again. They got bogged down with the writing sessions for the last album, especially because the singer was not a writer, so something was missing from the usual interactive creative process. Trevor Horn provided a bolt on solution for a certain style and provided a lot of prewritten material. It worked out OK as far Steve was concerned but he doesn't want to do that again. With the change of singer since then and the renewed confidence and energy of the live band, another album is being discussed ("blowing in the wind") and ideas put into the melting pot, but Steve thinks they should create a new internal musical chemistry out of which could come another new style and direction with music generated by the band and that will take time to mature; more than one tour in each other's company. In short he only wants Yes to make another album when the band have got something new and distinctive to say in musical terms, not just as a commercial exercise.
