    Re: Hawkwind

My Hawklords - Barney Bubbles Memorial Concert DVD arrived friday so had a good watch of that followed by listening to SpaceRitual live 2009 at the Bilston 2.

An excellent way to spend a week end.

now I've landed back on planet earth I suppose it's work again.

    Great choices there Jon!

Also love A&B/GV - worth the admission price alone for the spine-tingling mellotron bridge between the two.Truly out of this world!

Yes, I agree, Levitation was probably their last truly great album.

The Calvert years comprising Astounding Stories/Quark, Strangeness and Charm/Hawklords/PXR5 is probably my favourite era, though the early Space Ritual stuff is only a whisker behind.

    Era: Calvert era
    Album: Quark (with PXR5 a close 2nd)
Song: probably Robot (driven by the lyrics)

Have you checked out the new, improved Hawklords Live '78?

I drifted away after Choose Your Masques. Trying to catch up now.

Soon after this I thought The Chronicle of the Black Sword (1985) wasn't bad and the gigs (at least the two nights I saw them at the Hammy Odeon) followed by the Live Chronicles LP were excellent.

As I think I posted elsewhere, In Search Of Space was one of those albums that marked you out as cool if you had it tucked under your arm in my Upper Sixth.

Along with The Yes Album, Atom Heart Mother, Deep Purple In Rock, Grave New World, Argus and Aqualung.

I'd say at least three - Hawkwind, X In Search Of Space to Warrior, Calvert era, Live '79 to Black Sword...

Gold medal to RealyerI. Plus 5000 bonus points for being so quick.

I had a feeling at least one person would find it easy. All this Calvert talk made me give it another spin and I just thought I'd pop the question.

Gone are the days when a coked-up teen superstar/psychedelic warrior presents a children's TV show with Hawkwind on.

Yes, excellent recording but half the songs are missing. Where are Steppenwolf, Robot, Uncle Sam's on Mars, etc?

Or have they released another version that finally includes these? A quick check on Amazon only shows the truncated one.

I think some of these might have turned up as bonus tracks on one or two of the other Atomhenge re-releases.

Just wish they'd put them all out on the one CD, even if it meant it was a double.

I wish they would play in the U.S. again. I saw Nik Turner's Space Ritual years ago, and Huw Lloyd Langton last year, but I never saw Hawkwind.
