"All I can say at the moment is we're very happy with Jon Davison coming in. And we haven't formally made plans for next year, but I suspect we will want to do a new studio album with Jon Davison, who is also a writer, whereas Benoit David wasn't a writer. So that's kind of the direction we will probably be going," Squire said firmly.'

What I find interesting is Squire points out Davison is a writer am I the only one who thinks it's possible Davison has already brought a song or 2 to Yes and they like that song or 2? Once again squire is vaguely pointing at a new album next year.
But the quote of Davison being a writer and that being "the Direction we will probably go" I found interesting. what do you guys think... this at the very least should quiet the voices of "Well sure Davison can write but will yes be open to his ideas... It sounds like they are very open.

I know skeptics will call me an idiot for saying this But i now firmly believe Davison has at least given one demo/song to yes and they like it I mean why else metion that Davison is a writer where Benoit is not. Either he has given them a song or started adding to material they were working on already.....
Either way I think we can safely say yes has some new stuff now how much I don't know but there is at least 1 new yes song co written by Davison otherwise why bring it up? Right?

Or Davidon simply has a hand and a voice in the writing process. Some of Yes' best moments come from people throwing their bits into a very loose framework. They mention that Davison is a writer because he wrote music for the bands he's been in, not because he presented Yes with some material. Most likely all or most of the songs on the next record will be co-written by Davison.

Squire doesn't strike me as a glass Hammer and sky cries Mary fan so i still think that he wrote a song with yes already but time will tell i guess.

Well, yeah, this is one of the reasons that he was a good choice for Yes, he is a musician so he brings the voice and much more to the table.
Listen to Delicious Agony Progressive Rock Radio (www.deliciousagony.com).
"Name one band who only plays their new album, and no old songs from their past catalogue - I can't think of one. Didn't Yes play Roundabout as an encore on the Tales tour?" - BillGuitar
Henry said squire's acknowledgement of Davison as a writer is probably due to Squire knowing that davison has been writing for 18+ years I countered I don't think Squire has listened to Davison's other band and that perhaps Davison has either helped developed material yes was already working on or has brought 1 or 2 new songs the band seems to like. Just my observation We really won't know until well down the road.

He doesn't need to be a fan of them to know Davison has a writing history. Perhaps Taylor Hawkins told him in one of his daily phone calls!
Squire has always been open about the new guy in the band having a writing component. (He was keen on David doing so.) But I don't think we can read too much into this one quote.

I am starting to hope/think it will be more of a collaborative album you know music and lyrics by Yes kind of deal... we'll see
it is big news up until today many assumed Davison would simply be there to sing the lyrics provided by horn and Squire look back on the posts and tell me you don't get that impression.

To be honest, what Yes really need from NuJon (and I think it's probable that they'll get it) is a loose outline with some 'non-mundane' lyrics that they can take apart and rearrange in their own way and put their own stamp on, not a studio quality demo arranged down to the last detail.
More like Jon Anderson than Trevors Horn or Rabin...
