Re: Thread for UK Yesfans - Part 20

Having looked into it a little further, it seems that our top rider (who has placed first in all dressage events so far), maybe even our top two, will be favourites for medals in the individual dressage final on Thursday.

Quite agree Jon. I don't understand why Team GB didn't lodge an appeal. Seems to me they had strong grounds - and it also seem that that any time someone appeals, the authorities puff their pants and back down.

I think the Team GB cycling director had a bit of a go at the officials in the moment - judging by the TV feedback. But later, when Victoria Pendleton watched the replay back (for the first time) during her interview with Gary Linekar, she looked a little gobsmacked, I must say. I don't think even she realised how bad it was. Meares definitely leaned into her and consciously pushed her elbow out towards her to put her off. No doubt this kind of thing goes on a bit, but that was blatant harassment on the track. Dangerous stuff. Cheating Aussie b!tch! And I'm pretty sure the relegation affected VP's state of mind, she was all over the place in the second race and clearly rattled, no to say relieved it was over when it was all done.

Re: Thread for UK Yesfans - Part 20

No time for a proper list of today's GB medals hopes as I'm off to London for the day. Starting with a visit to the processors of French visas, who have finally got it together to issue my step-daughter a visa (I think - I won't actually know until I open the envelope as they refuse to say anything in their communications). Then a wander around town, most likely ending up in Regent's Park (my favourite park) for a one-man picnic. Then down to Euston to meet my mate Colin with whom I'll be sharing a few drinks (non-alcoholic in my case) and a meal before we head down to Sadlers Wells for the Jon Anderson gig. Hopefully we'll connect with Ian Bluegrunt and some other Yesfans along the way.

Here's a brief list of medals hopes:

    Nicola Adams - boxing semi-final
    Tim Brabants - kayaking
Nick Skelton, Ben Maher, Scott Brash - individual jumping/equestrian
    Morrison and Rhodes - sailing
Good with curry; not good with dogma

    26/10/77 (Wembley); 26/10/78 (Wembley); 14/12/80 and 16/12/80 (Hammersmith); 11/7/84 and 12/7/84 (Wembley); 8/12/87 (Montreal); 23/8/89 (ABWH - Ottawa); ... The Wilderness Years ...; 16/6/04 (Wembley); 17/11/09 (Hammersmith); 17/11/11 (Hammersmith); 26/3/13, 27/3/13 and 29/3/13 (Cruise to the Edge)

In defence of myself, can I just say that although I have posted about the Olympics it's been more a case of my fascination/obssession with the stats side of it than anything else. I am glad GB are giving a good account of themselves. However, the pledge I made on here before the games began that the only event I would ever be watching was the footy still stands. I have not seen even one other sport/race/event except when I turn the News on, hoping to glean some idea of what's actually going on in the world, only to find approx 75% of the bulletin taken up with highlights of the Olympics. Then I sort of can't avoid it. It's even happening on the BBC's dedicated 24 hour News Channel.

Fates worse than death, that lot! Just so relieved you didn't mention Radiohead!

But I'm still not watching any of the 'lympics 'cept for the footy.

I've lasted this long, only another four more days to stick it out.

Soon after that it'll be the new Prem league season and back to sanity!

Could this be the first time that "Prem league" and "sanity" have been used in the same sentence?

Could it be the last time?

Perhaps. One thing's for sure, this thread will most likely then revert to a) driving the Duchess totally round the twist again , b) driving away the few remaining US fans who pop in here from time to time! and c) see the welcome return of the prodigal son Norm the Taximan!
