You should really hear this song!

So, the idea of this thread is to post a link to a song you absolutely love and you want to introduce to/share with others.

Re: You should really hear this song!

First one is what I feel is the best song Marillion had done with Steve Hogarth as their singer. It's from their 2004 album 'Marbles' and it's called 'Neverland'. Beautifully played, beautifully sung and it really graps me on an emotional level.

    Hear for yourself:

A hugely underrated album and band, featuring one of the best rhythm sections prog ever saw (Tony Reeves and Andrew McCulloch).

This is a cool idea for a thread.

Here is one of my favorite (hard to pick just one) from the eclectic pen of Roy Harper. The second guitarist is Jimmy Page. It is featured on the album Whatever Happened To Jugula? Pete Townshend used the same basic tune for "White City Fighting" on the White City: A Novel album.

There are so many more, but this one has been going through my head lately.

Actually, I pretty much love all of it, but the titular track from It Bites' Map Of The Past is just as good a representation of that album as any.

Good idea for a thread! Trying to think of obscure things not widely heared here, so this is one of Steven Wilson's cover versions:

A stalwart of the northern music scene for too many years. Deserves more recognition.

I guess people 'round these parts aren't in a sharing mood lately...

I would have thought this thread would have been swamped with cool links.

    Ah, well.

Here is a marvelous Leonard Cohen song from Songs Of Love And Hate (1971).

I was deep into jazz study when I first heard this, and I was knocked out by the stark simplicity of the music, and the poetic grace of the lyrics.

    Hear for yourself:
This was one of the highlights of the Marillion gig last Thursday. I'd not heard the song before the gig.

This song won't get out of my head:

Cargo of diamonds as you are: nothing more valuable, nothing more tough.

She's an equal opportunity offender, a societal wildcard. You can't control her, only hope to contain her, even then she refuses to be possessed. If she were a coin, you would spend her, unwillingly. If she were an animal, you'd free her to the wilderness.

    Arrow

Speaking of Marillion, Mark Kelly of that band also worked with DeeExpus on their latest album (which I also think is great!), King Of Number 33. This is the last track on the disc, Memo, which also features Nik Kershaw on vocals.
