I really don't even mind sincere, thoughtful critique of band members (some of that gets called bashing). I think we can love the music the band has made and still be objective and have opinions about creative output and personnel. It's just that when you come onto the site to see what new posts there are and it is perpetually unchanged with this vs. that or which is your favorite syllable from Siberian Khatru, well it just is not so interesting.

I must admit I've obviously missed huge amounts of negativity here at Yesfans because I haven't really been keeping up. Yes have a new singer. End of story. Jon Anderson, Trevor Buggle, Benoit David and now Jon Davidson.

What is there to say? I'll go see them with this singer too if I get the chance and buy any new album they produce.

Feelin' ok, thanks Kirk. I'll give a whirl at starting a thread, but it I got nuthin' at the moment.

I voted for Benny. He was a lousy Anderson soundalike, but John D. is the perfect soundalike. I don't like soundalikes. I wish they would do their own thing.

I'm going to hold off to trash Jon when the next new guy comes along and, I have a feeling we will still be seeing "respectful" threads created about Benoit from Mr. Holland; even if that's years down the line ;-)

I really miss Benoit.. There was a certain genuine niceness about the guy, but Davison just nails it. Not as soulful on the FFH stuff, but seems to bring a renewed energy that Yes hasn't had since the 90s.

I won't miss BD at all. No more voice cracking. No more silly stage presence. He was a fill-in until they found someone that allowed them to concentrate on playing their instruments - which Jon D. does rather well.

The reviews of their shows with Jon D. are very good - much better than the head shaking when they took the stage with BD.

Mr. Holland - this thread pits one member of the band against another. Why do that? I was no fan of BD, but at least he did try to fill the role, and we should all respect him for that. He is gone now, so why can't we close this thread and let it go?

Interesting how things change over the course of a thread, isn't it?

I thought Benoit David was excellent. He wasn't Jon Anderson excellent, but no one was going to be. He handled the classics well and produced interesting live interpretations of them on the live album they did, and gave voice to all new songs on very enjoyable studio album. I was looking forward to see what Yes would do next with his involvement, and was really looking forward to a followup from Fly From Here, an album that sold very well (We'll see how Davidson's first Yes album does, if he's still with the band by the time they get back in the studio).

I don't get the positive reaction people are having to Jon Davision. I want to be the respectful to the man, who clearly is doing the best he can, and is talented in his own way, but I really can't get into much of what I've heard from him. I see my interest in new Yes starting to fade. I actually wince and get a headache listening to him try to handle some of the classics.

I'm baffled at how the Internet has gotten behind Davidson when they didn't get behind a much better singer in David. It'd be one thing if they said with both guys "Hey, this is the only Yes we're going to get", but to see the same people who trashed David treat Davidson like he's the second coming of Jon Anderson is beyond strange.

David was the one I could kind of dig. Davidson is more a fill-in I might be able to put up with because that's the only way I'll get to hear new Yes albums, assuming the band's lineup doesn't change. I really wish Jon Anderson, Rick Wakeman, and Trevor Rabin would get their on again, off again project on- and get a bass player and a drummer and do a full studio album with the vein of Yes (Even if they can't call it that).

Heck, maybe Mystery will go in more of a "Yes" direction with Benoit David back in the band. I'm not holding out too much hope for that one, though- it sounds like Mystery has it's own people who have been in the band longer than David and have their own style. But you never know.

You might attribute that to your specific and inherent sound sensitivity issues.

Then why is it that I didn't have the same reaction to Anderson singing? Or David covering Anderson's songs? Why Davidson in particular?

Why not? They're all different vocalists.

I can deal with the sound of a Harmon mute from some horn players who use them, but I can't deal with same from other horn players.
