No surprises in the setlist, though. Hesrd no calls for Owner, but plenty for CTTE!![]()
YES he IS!!!! It almost felt like a show from the 70's
If you want a pic of keyboards I should be able to get a decent one Thursday at HoB in MB Thursday. I'll Try!
My review of tonight's Yes show:
Pros: JON DAVISON! He is SO much better than Benoit and did not have any trouble whatsoever singing the set. I also got to hear America, Wondrous Stories, and (my favorite Yes track) Awaken for the first time, and all were great. And Steve was awesome, as always (He and Jon even did a section from Topographic Oceans during the Acoustic set)
Cons: The tempos for some of the songs were still slow, particularly in Yours Is No Disgrace and Tempus Fugit at the start of the set. I don't want to say for sure it's cause of Alan but it is tough for him for sure.
Overall, they played and sounded MUCH better than the last few shows and the venue was much better too.
Fly From Here was pretty good but I think the audience didn't really dig it that much.
Also, Procol Harum was nothing short of great! Even a head concussion and fall can't keep Gary Brooker's voice down. Loved every minute of it!
AMAZING!!!!!
Holy Sh*t! That was incredible!
Okay I'm going to try to put down my thoughts.
First off Procol Harum was great! I bought a greatest hits CD before the show and then after I bought their live album (last one left).
As stated before Gary Brooker was very funny. He mentioned the Olympics in London and remarked "We just heard that we won the bronze in gin drinking and, of course, a gold in larger drinking. 18 pints." Later he talked about their album available via download, "You get a stick which you plug into a wall and you can play it back on your toaster."
Okay onto Yes.
Same setlist. Steve played a piece of Bach from his new album Time along with Catcus Boogie. I didn't really notice the tempos. Maybe a little slower but definitely POWERFUL. I thought Alan did great tonight.
About Davison. Besides that he's great I think he shows restraints in places in regards to the high notes which is a very good thing. I miss Benoit and I wish him the very best with Mystery, I think Benoit really tried to match the vocals on the albums and the result of this after years did damage to his vocals. If Davison is doing a high note he'll either cut it off or take it back down rather than overreach.
There were two glitches mainly with Geoff's keyboards. First off huuuuge improvement with keyboard volume over last year. I thought Geoff came in loud and clear. During Awaken his organ was loud but one of his moogs was softer in the mix. No problems with the actual keyboard playing but with the rig itself. During FFH Overture either Geoff hit the wrong trigger or the right sample wasn't cued up because we got a sudden vocal sample of "ALL GOOD PEOPLE". Next during Awaken during the piano intro the first notes were on piano and then the next set was on the organ and then next was back to piano. I don't know if this intentional to add variety or if a button wasn't pushed. But it was fine and wasn't totally out of place.
Onto the crowd. Crowd was pretty good and energetic. People were still milling around during Procol Harum's set and throughout the evening there were multiple trips to the concession stand for beer. Also please no shouting and whistling during Steve's solo set.
I disagree. I think this is the case for any band with new material out. I'm sure when Yes was promoting Magnification or The Ladder the audience was more subdued because they weren't familiar with the piece or wanted to take it in. I thought the crowd was respectful during this section and I heard some people singing Fly From Here after the show. After the suite my friend turned to me and said, "F*cking amazing!"Fly From Here was pretty good but I think the audience didn't really dig it that much.
A father brought along his teenage daughters one of whom was sporting his Drama tour t-shirt (I have to pick one of those up one day). When HOTS came on they both screamed and lept to the feet. Meet a guy younger then myself after the show and said this was his first Yes concert. It wasn't all middle aged men and old hippies =)
I don't think there's anymore left to say. It was amazing. I demand a live album or DVD. I thought about passing the guys at the soundboard 40 bucks for a recording =)
SEE THIS TOUR!
I took some pictures and some video. I didn't take as many pictures as I did last year because I wanted to concentrate more on the performance. Also I have a shaky hand so many of them were blurs but there are couple good ones in there.
Anything eles?
Oh yeah, did I mention they were amazing? Because they were =)
Wow, sounds like a great concert! Was the 'Leave of Green' part played?
The mind is like a parachute; it works much better when it's open.
