Thread: Which do you think is the better Tull album?

Re: Which do you think is the better Tull album?

I got to say I prefer Ian's lyrical song-writing from the early years of Jethro Tull, and if I must choose one album in particular which appeals most to me it would have to be Benefit. I find I really like a lot of the music and when I go and search up the lyrics like their poetry, and furthermore poetry I can relate to, it makes listening to it again that much more rewarding. Teacher, With You There To Help Me, Inside... Great stuff.

Aqualung, Benefit and Stand Up are my three favourite Tull albums, with perhaps Aqualung being my very favourite.

I consider myself a big Tull fan, I have nearly all their albums, but I often feel there is almost a disincentive to choosing the most commercially recognized album as your favourite because it doesn't distinguish you from the casual fan.

When I first discovered Jethro Tull, Stormwatch was the new album. To this day, it sounds fresh and exciting to me. There was a darkness to that album that is unique in the JT canon, as, regardless of the subject matter, Ian found a way to impart a whimsical, dry humor. Stormwatch was the third album in what is arguably the highest quality, most consistent consecutive three album run by a 70s rock band--Songs From The Wood, Heavy Horses, and Stormwatch!! Jethro Tull ended the 70s on an artistic high that few bands could hope to match.
    Good words.
Best album is always depends on your mood.
It happens so that right now I'm listening to "Stormwatch" - and I like concept of the album - climate changes, oil depended civilization, I like lyrics, "...we'll watch the old gods plays by Dun Rungill", "Orion"... So I'm choosing "Stormwatch".
It creates ambience around you, it's like SF book.
I'm listening more to JT of post-classical period.
The first albums I heard back in the end of the 80s were "Minstrel" and "Songs from the Wood".
Mostly I'm re-listening to "Heavy Horses", "Stormwatch", "The Broadsword and the Beast", "Crest of a Knave", "Rock Island", "Roots to Branches".

Jethro Tull touring TAAB was one of my first rock concerts with Eagles as opener. First time I heard TAAB I had my first stereo with real speakers on either side of my king size waterbed. However, Aqualung has always been one of my favorite albums, period.
    Young adult angst indeed.
