Key Moments in the History of Yes

What happened to wonders we once knew so well
Did we forget what happened surely we can tell
We must have waited all our lives for this
    Moment moment moment
    - "The Revealing Science of God," from Tales from Topographic Oceans, 1974.

I was thinking today of what were were some of the great, maybe not-so-great, and pivotal moments in the history of the Yes. Here, in chronological order, is my list:

    1. Jon Anderson meets Chris Squire.
    2. Yes opens for Cream's farewell concert.
    3. Yes signs with Atlantic Records.
    4. Roger Dean designs the Yes logo.
    5. Close to the Edge is released.
    6. Rick Wakeman throws tomatoes at the Tormato cover photographs.
    7. "We would like you all to meet the Buggles."
    8. Owner of a Lonely Heart hits #1 on the Billboard chart.
    9. The first Union tour concert.
    10. The Yes "unplugged" theater-cast.
    11. A rather unique Yes line-up performs Cinema and Owner' at the Prince's Trust tribute to Trevor Horne.
    12. The first "Mega-Union: The Battle, 2014" concert. (Oops! I might be jumping the gun on that one.)

Please feel free to rank them, rag on them and, above all, add other key moments in the history of Yes.

Nice, The Battle: Alan vs Bill, Steve vs Trevor vs Peter, Jon vs Benoit vs Trevor, Rick vs an entire armada of keyboardplayers...
Chris vs Tony Levin? Something tells me that one will be very friendly...

Re: Key Moments in the History of Yes

I would actually start in the beginning when a dozen or so male babies were born at different times and years and move on from there. ;-)

and let's not forget the time that Jon and the boys found the crate of extra large underpants lying on the road.

    Steve Howe joins the band.

    Rick Wakeman joins the band.

Eddie Offord has to reform the copy of audio tape that was accidently torn up and discarded outside into a trash dumpster.

Trevor Rabin comes up with the bassline to their biggest single while on the toilet.

Depending whether or not you are from Cleveland when the band is performing there and Jon says "Good evening, Chicago!".

I suspect that first happened a long time ago. It's much easier to see spaceships very early in the morning when things are quiet. When you're doing a milk round, for instance.

I was hoping for this thread to be mostly serious, but I couldn't resist:

In the round, and in a cage,
    WWE Presents
    YES, Mega-Union 2014: The Battle

"Sorry, that is my solo," Steve Howe says as he slams a folding chair onto Trevor Rabin's head during "Yours Is No Disgrace".... Jon Anderson grabs and twists Benoit David's nose, ala The Three Stooges, and removes Trevor Horne's glasses so he can stomp on them.... Alan White tosses a bucket of water onto Bill Bruford and his electric drums, thereby nearly electrocuting him.... The all too numerous to count keyboardists argue all night over who will get to play the one keyboard setup. Many songs go sans any keyboards as they incessantly bicker and try to deceive each other. ("Hey, I heard there is a bloke backstage handing out Yes royalties checks. Go check it out.")

Near the end of the show, Chris Squire and ABWH bassist Tony Levin perform a 23 minute version of The Fish. The incredible thunder from the two bass guitars causes the cage to fall apart. The band members are then startled to their senses, and decide to form an alliance that will battle Asia for progressive rock band supremacy!

Steve Howe and Geoff Downes are very conspicuously silent at this point....

by far one of the most important key moments in my eyes.. and what is beautiful is that it was captured on tape as we can hear in this truly magical moment in yes history.

if you have never heard this version before please take the time to listen, a wonderous story for so many who were there on that beautiful- magical night.

Chris says to Alan while working on material for their possibly-to-be-released-in-2014 album, "I really fancy going on a cruise, how about you?"

There's no 'e'. Its Horn. Sorry to be a grammar nazi but both Trevor and Geoff's names are always misspelled, especially Geoff.

Spelling has nothing to do with grammar. Sorry to be a pedant.

If properly written, that phrase should read, "Trevor's and Geoff's names." The way you had written it would have been correct only if you were talking about things they both owned together. Clearly, they each have their own, individual names.

Don't be sorry. It just so happens that today is the International Day of the Pedantic. Let's all enjoy it, guilt free for this one day a year!
