Female Prog rock bands and singers

Hello. I was wondering if there are any female prog rock singers or bands out there? What are some good ones?
    Thanks.

She has a very sweet voice. I loved her take on Turn Of The Century on the Tales From Yesterday CD.

I like that one alot too. It's one of my personal favorites off of Tales From Yesterday.

On the first Wetton/Downes Icon album, Annie sounds amazing on the song "In the End".

I agree,Annie has a wonderful voice and is my own personal favourite.

Also, one not mentioned so far is a Dutch group from the early 70s called Earth And Fire.Their lead singer was a girl called Jerney Kaagman. Two of their albums in particular stand out-Atlantis and Song Of The Marching Children. Some really great mellotron on these.

One of the first was Babe Ruth, which also has the
honor of sporting an early pre-Yes Roger Dean cover-

George (Australian band) - Katie Noonan
    Katie Noonan solo
Coda (Australian) - a mostly instrumental band, fronted by Naomi, who plays violin and Nick on viola, occasionally opera singer Jessica O'Donoghue does vocals for particular performances.

In the closely related world of symphonic metal, there are many women lead singers of bands, many are operatically trained, check em out:

    Lacuna Coil
    Nightwish
    Epica
    Within Temptation
    After Forever
    Tristania
    Evanescence

Loreena McKennitt - although not prog per se - actually, her music is kind of hard to classify (a blend of middle eastern / celtic folk, maybe?), she has an amazingly beautiful voice. Even more ear-opening was the fact that she can replicate that voice live as she did when I saw her in concert last year!
glancing at beauty’s brightness, dancing until you´re whole
breaking light waves on the surface, reaching your deeper soul
in reflected beauty see the size of light on earth, tonight
dancing to beauty’s brightness, glancing at what is whole, your soul

After the few seconds of audience/band banter (jingle bells!), this song, Anger, is a good exampleof this band, Magenta

My daughter tells me The Gathering is "sort of prog".

Lisa Gerrard, from Dead Can't Dance, now solo. Indefinable. Deep, resonant, rich contralto voice. Appears on the Gladiator soundtrack.

BTW, all the bands I've mentioned are on Youtube if you want to check them out.

Be sure to check out Contraction, a Quebecois band from the mid 70's. They did two albums, both featuring the lovely Christiane Robichaud on lead vocals.

    http://www.progquebec.com/contraction.html

They were sort of a folk/rock/prog kind of mix.

Thanks for all your ideas. If you have anymore or think of any, please post them here. I listened to Magenta, and I really like them a lot.
