Yeah, that was great...
We seen this a few weeks ago here: http://www.yesfans.com/showthread.php?t=44416
It was good to know that I got all but 2 of the questions. Being a prog rock fanatic does have its perks.
Yeah, I'd say Steven mopped up the floor with him.
"I crucified my hate & held the word within my hand...
...in the end, we'll agree, we'll accept (we'll immortalize):
Loneliness is a power that we possess to give or take away forever."
Well, that's all well and good...but which of them come from the better band??![]()

Not an easy answer.
I love both bands. I think Steven Wilson is the stronger song writer but Mikael Akerfeldt is one helluva guitarist...
...at this point, I like Porcupine Tree better because it's taken me awhile to get past that "grog" type singing Mikael Akerfeldt does.
Chris (CJ85) turned me on to Opeth, we've been going through the Opeth catalog and so far the 'Damnation' album is the one I like best (This is the album Steven Wilson worked on). The one song 'Windowpane' gets a play everyday (great song)....
I'm guessing this is a video link - I can't view it here at work, but it sounds like it's worth watching.
I've been impressed with Steven Wilson as a knowledgeable man - he seems to be very well-rounded in that he understands not only music itself, but the history and influences giving rise to music today, and the business of music - seems he knows how to play many roles in regard to music.
I really can't join in on any PT/Opeth comparison. My knowledge of Opeth is very limited - haven't heard any of their albums, and saw them briefly this year at the Progressive Nation tour - I say "briefly", because I had been standing for over 2 hours by the time they came on stage, and I needed a break to regroup before Dream Theater came on. So, I saw them perform about 4 songs before retreating the the lower level where I could sit down for a while.
My impression during those 4 songs was that they are probably the epitome of death metal, and do it well. Unfortunately, death metal isn't totally my thing - I still find those "Cookie Monster" vocals disconcerting . . .
I'm willing to hear more of their catalog and see what variety they may have, but haven't had that opportunity yet.
