Yeah, I like it. I agree it's not great and I'm a little embarassed to play it to friends. But I like it.

While it isn't my favorite cut off of Mag, I do like "Don't Go". Maybe its because it was one of the songs that I downloaded snippets from the internet while I was waiting for the album to be released. Anyway let's hear from others who like this song and why!
I think that it was just a fun song for Yes, and it gets back to their early appreciation for the Beach Boys. Its just Fun, Fun, Fun. I don't mind it anymore.
I have been listening to this band for about 25 years now, and there is no other yessong that will have me diving for the 'skip' button faster than this one. Sorry guys, when I heard it for the first time (live) and Jon brought out the bullhorn, it was over for me.
i like that song, of all the songs on there that is the one that would get some airplay on the radio. but i htink its a good song, i dont know what people say when they say it "doesnt go with the rest of the album". at least it doesnt have that much orchestra in it.
Gandalf: I say we Don't Go to Moria
Aragorn: Ditto.
Legolas: I daresay we Don't Go either.
Gimli: Don't Go? Don't Go? I say we must go to Moria.
Frodo: I'm not gonna settle this Don't Go dilemma again!
Boromir: Why don't we Don't Go to Dixie, er, Moria?
Gandalf: Have you ever heard of Balrogs??
Samwise: That settles it. LET'S PRETEND we did go!
I don't expect to ever put DON'T GO on a homemade Yes compilation, but I don't mind it. I like the overall sound. The lyrics are somewhat less than perfect, but then, so am I. In spite of the horrible way Jon pronounces the word 'for' as 'far' to make it rhyme with 'car', I still like it. However, I don't see it as a hit song. I really don't hear Yes in that context.
In truth there are only a small handful of Yes tracks I don't like. I find it very hard to like OWNER OF A LONELY HEART, for instance.
hey - we all make mistakes.....
illusion, No! Soft as a Dove--awful? No way. Lovely, delicate, very Jon-like. Fragile sounding, exquisite and refined. Awful? No, not even close.Originally posted by illusion
"I like every song on mag, apart from the awful "soft as a dove".
I never concern myself with whether Yes is doing pop or prog-rock or whether they do grand long pieces or short snappy ditties. To me its all about the song and the execution. "Don't Go" is a good song, that could have been better. If I had the producer's ear I would of suggested he take that little musical hook that makes a brief appearance about 15 seconds into the song and use it during the first verse--and use both parts, instead of just repeating only the first half of this hook like happens in the second verse. And as for that bridge with the megaphone, I keep on thinking about the Buggles for some reason. Overall, its a decent pop song that would make both Trevor's proud. Thumbs up.
I like Dont Go quite a lot, especially since it immediatly follows Sprit of Survival.
Dont go you would think would be popular on radio.
Whilst not exactly Yes at their most profound Don't Go is certainly a good song. It went down really well at the concert in Glasgow, Scotland, UK last December, and Jon certainly seemed to be having a good time singing it! We just wanted to get up and boogie :)
Sounds fun to me. Who could complain at that?Originally posted by Shaker Loops

Would Don't Go have been better if it didn't have the opening line, "Don't take love for granted." I felt my gag reflex kick in a little when I heard that. Other than that, its not my favorite but I don't mind it.
Now, I absolutely adore Soft as a Dove. I love Celtic folk music and this is a sweet simple song that harkens back to Jon's Celtic roots. It would sound great on a couple of the Windham Hill Celtic CDs I have.
Yes, I agree about that line in Don't Go. Actually, all of the lyrics are problematic in my opinion. I'd throw the whole batch out.Originally posted by Insane Teacher

And I agree about Soft as a Dove. It is sooo lovely. How can anyone hate that song?
i think its one of the best tunes on that album. its got an unusual tune and its nice. i think its quite original and its not a pop song. it sounds like nothing else.
we were supposed to be friends forever, yeah yeah
I have seen alot of adverse comments about this song since Magnification was released, but the more I hear it the more I like it. fair enough its not classic Yes and i think they would be the first to admit it isn't meant to be, but I still enjoy it and so does my dog.
