Is Emerson Lake and Powell a "real" ELP album?

Is Emerson Lake and Powell a "real" ELP album? The reason I am asking is that I have read that the Yes album Drama is not considered a real Yes album by Jon Anderson because he is not on it. I guess this is a matter of opinion and it doesn't really matter but the reason I ask is that I really love the Emerson Lake and Powell album!

I think the keyboards on "Touch and Go" are really great and I like "The Score." And my favorite song on the album is "Mars the Bringer of War," which is an extended piece in true progressive style, that is a reinterpretation from Gustav Holst's "The Planets."

Does anyone else like this album?

I'd say it was OK to class it as an ELP album. Carl Palmer - great drummer that he is - was never a major creative force in the band so on that score(pardon the pun) I think we can say it is. Certainly it's more ELP than 3 were.

I think it's a great ELP album. Besides, it still can be condensed to the initials ELP anyway.

I really liked Mars too, The Villager. My favorite though is still Learning To Fly. In my opinion, this album is also pretty progressive for anything that was made in the 80's.

Arrow Re: Is Emerson Lake and Powell a "real" ELP album?

Emo played "Touch and Go" solo on Letterman after album was released.

Bought the tape late 80s and learned that cut, still cannot find peoples to back it up.

Listen to Holst first, THEN King Crimson In the Wake of Poseidon THEN ELPowell.
( and the black Jeff Beck album with Train Train, same Cozy, he be dead now, waaaaa )
I chuck the CD in with ELP but it is different, same with 3, sure would LOVE to do Desde onstage.

Of course its an ELP album, If Carl Palmer playes tracks from it on his current tour, I think it qualifies.

What great lyrics. I really like "For You" off Love Beach. I play it often.

Do me a favour !!! never a major creative force .

Show me a better drummer and I'll sleep out. Carl palmer was and still is the best drummer ever.......never seen any one hit the drums so hard and his speed is....well not possible. Beggars belief.

No one comes near this guy IMO, even now at his age his solos are mind blowing.

Re: Is Emerson Lake and Powell a "real" ELP album?

I love it when these ancient threads come back. I won't do it (got blasted on another forum one time for "necroposting") but I'm okay with others doing it, I guess. Four years!

Anyway, I vote Yes. I'll let others argue about Carl's contributions to ELP, but I hear Keith's keyboards and classical influences; Greg's bass, guitar, and voice; and Cozy's last name does start with a "P", so there you go. And I have it filed with my ELP discs as well.

You better believe it!

But it is Emerson, Lake & Powell!

A great band that lasted way too short. Glad and lucky that I saw them 5 times on that one and only tour!

Yes it is an ELP album.. Even if its E, L, and Powell. I woulndt say its great, but its still an ELP album

Now, if what you say is true, and Anderson thinks that Drama isnt a true Yes album because he isnt on it, then perhaps Mr Anderson should pack up his ego and see Drama for what it is, a truely great YES album.. but thats another thread

It is most definitely an ELP album. How could it not be? You had your thoughtful songs, your radio-friendly songs, your jazzy numbers, your long instrumentals, your songs with long intros--this is a true keeper, one I cherished way back when. And this tour kicked serious booty! (as did the 3 tour--got Carl's sig on a T-shirt!)

I loved that album and yes, I considered it an ELP album.

Cozy Powell was another of my favorite drummers.
Cozy's real name was Colin Flooks.

Good thing he changed it or they'd have been ELF. Yikes!

RIP Cozy. (1947-1998)

Definitely an ELP album. Bands like to move on and if Palmer didn't want to why should the band not?

Cozy and Carl are apples and oranges. I saw that Emerson,Lake and Powell tour and Cozy was a force to be reckoned with!!!
