spider Update on next Rush album

http://www.cdnow.com
As of 1/9/02:

While Rush fans endure the longest gap between new recordings in the band's 27-year history, word has come from its Toronto studio that work on album No. 17 is nearly complete.

In fact, the trio -- Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart -- has finished the recording phase with co-producer/engineer Paul Northfield (Hole, Marilyn Manson), and they are now mixing the results.

Atlantic/Anthem Records has announced a planned early spring release for the still-unnamed album, the first Rush studio effort since 1996's Test for Echo. (The band released the triple-live Different Stages in 1998.)

Rush is expected to follow the new album's release with its first concert dates since 1997.

This is a quote from another music I forum I frequent...

WDHA radio in Jersey, just had a big wig from Atlantic records live on the air to talk about Rush.
He said the name of the record is Vapor Trail, the single will likely be a song called 'Little Victory', the band is set to perform at the PNC arts center in Jersey on July 11 th.
He said the sound is quite heavy, but very fresh and exciting. He also said you could tall that the boys have listened to a lot of heavy rock. He mentioned Tool and older U2 type rock.
He said the WDHA would be the first station to carry the single, which is due in week two of April and the final release date for the album is May 16th???

Anthem Entertainment announced today that Rush is putting on the final touches of the new album. If all goes well, or "if the mixing gods are smiling upon us", we can expect to hear a new Rush single on the radio by the end of April.

Talking Let the Countdown begin!!!

Great tip, Awakened - you rule!!

56 days to go!!! With all that's happened to Peart over the last several years, the lyrics should be quite introspective.

Cool Place your bets...

Which one(s) will be the instrumental(s)?

I'll say "Freeze (Part IV of 'Fear')" or "Nocturne."

Can anyone answer this question?

Is it true that the drummer has a Ph.D in percussion???? It is easy to tell he is a percussionist versus purely a drummer. Those background percussive sounds in Trees really remind me of a forest! And, how do you really spell his name?

Neil

His name is spelled Neil Peart, and he does indeed have a PHD in percussion. Not too many of those floating around I would imagine. The guy is a h*ll of a musician, and lyricist.

Dr. Peart?

Where did you verify that Mr. Peart has a PhD in percussion? I'm curious. I understand he didn't even finish high school in Toronto, opting instead to backpack around Europe. But obviously, he one EXTREMELY well-read and well-enlightened individual.

A drummer colleague of mine once informed me that Peart has such a command of percussive instruments that he can actually hold a stick down for a millisecond longer to change the sound/tone/pitch of the drum. Incredible.

They have done all this before, promotional videos, the audio postcard from The Ladder, i-mix CDs, Mag wallpaper etc etc. I think that Yes do fairly well in this regard.

Simon.
