Philadelphia DJ Ed Sciaky Dead At 55

Very sad news. Ed was a huge Yes fan and champion of the band from their very first appearance in Philadelphia. Ed hosted the YesSpeak screening in Philly on Monday night. He looked pretty weak, but his enthusiam for the band was as high as ever. He would have been at the Spectrum on May 10th - maybe Jon will say something from the stage. He will be missed.

Theres also a statement on YesWorld about Ed's passing, with a picture of Ed & Rick. Very touching.

the music world has lost another hero.

yes, indeed, blank reg.
from the short bio on the yesworld link, it seems this guy helped yes back in the days and remained friends with them, as well as promoting the good music we like to call our favorite.. prog..
and you say he was at the yesspeak gig? wow!
he got to see them perform the acoustic set live..
one small consolation, i suppose..
at least he was quite happy before he 'walked on'..
[i know i will be listening to yes at my time of departure..i just KNOW it]
condolences out to the band and his family..
i am sure he will be greatly missed.
hats off to a man who KNEW great music-even if nobody else was listening..

Re: Philadelphia DJ Ed Sciaky Dead At 55

My post from last night on a thread "Ed Sciaky" started by Yesrocks:
I am shocked about this also. Ed was at the screening of Yesspeak at Riverview Theatre in Philadelphia on Monday night and introduced the evenings festivities. He seemed fine perhaps a little frail but his radio voice was the same as ever. I have long been a listener of Ed Sciaky on several of the Philadelphia stations that he has been with, including WMMR, WIOQ and currently WMGK. He had some great progressive music shows on Sunday nights--the Classic Cafe and Sunday Night Alternative. He was of course one of the biggest Yes Fans. The guys appeared on his shows either in person or by phone often. I have recordings of several appearances from Ed's shows (two notable ones-a live performance by Jon of 3 tunes from Change We Must and interview with Steve playing cuts off of Not Necessarily Acoustic). I often saw Ed around town over the years and always tried to say hello. He was a giant in progressive rock radio and will be sorely missed.

Re: Philadelphia DJ Ed Sciaky Dead At 55

It was because of Ed's fine programming that I became acquainted with so much wonderful music. In particular, the late, great Sunday Night Alternative on the late, great, WIOQ opened my ears to some amazing stuff and helped me grow, for want of a better word, beyond the standard formats for the day. The music was always there and I'll always be thankful that we listeners had Ed Sciaky to bring it to us.

Somewhere in a dusty corner of my home I have a cassette recording of one of Renaissance's last electric concerts from the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. Ed broadcast the concert on his Sunday night show. Not only did he introduce the band from the stage, he managed to get little interviews form Annie Haslam and Jon Camp just before the encore. You could tell the musicians were deeply appreciative of Ed's efforts to promote their music and looked upon him, I feel, as a good friend as well. There was such warmth there, such an understanding of music. Bolstered of course by the fact he was also having great fun. We should be so lucky in our jobs.

We'll miss you, Ed.

I miss Ed Sciaky.

I made a Sciaky Tree ornament for WMGK this year. I hope it inspires the program director.
