The 1/12 edition of the Daily Vault's ongoing Yes retrospective features Chris
Thelen's infamous 1997 roasting of _Tales_, along with a brand new review by
Herb Hill that's shall, we say, much kinder. Kind of a point-counterpoint
deal.

Thelen's "review" is HILARIOUS! It looks like it came from National Lampoon. Much better than that wanker Robert Hilburn's (heartburn) dismissal of anything other than Springsteen or the Clash. Just shows most critics dont get it.

I just checked the link - and today there are two reviews of Relayer - both were pretty positive actually.
Is there any way to backtrack and see the Tales reviews - I would LOVE to read them!

Thanks Mike! I found all the Yes reviews - interesting stuff.
Chris Thelen sure hated Tales, didn't he? Strange, considering that his reviews of other Yes albums were pretty good? And after reading his review, I'm still not sure what set him off!

ZZZZZZZZ......Thelen's review has been written a 1000 times before. Not an original thought in it.
The other reivew by Herb Hill was quite complimentary though.

"In 50 years no one will know who the prefab singing strippers of the MTV generation were because they are designed by the star maker machinery to be replaceable. Tales is quite irreplaceable and that makes this an A album."
My feelings exactly.

Well I think when the critics got a hold of Tales...Yes finally knew what it felt like to be ELP....
That word "Pretentious" kept flying around.
