Oh a new song?
cool
Patrick & I will be there.
If any of the local get there before I do save me a seat please.
SST keeps telling me he can't see me when I sprawl on the floor in the corner. :D It's comfortable there but you can only see the back of Earl's head.

Kathy...
I have eyes on the back of my head...
I see all! ;)
All the more eyes to roll at you, my dear! :rolleyes: :ele:
No 'new' songs Sheilers... Sorry! ...Still a work in progress, the new one.
But I'll play older-stuff you haven't heard before (I have quite the back-catalogue), plus, 'Seventh Sister' for Shifty...
4 hours to go: I just took my daughter Ivy out for a late 'mexican' lunch: I had a margarita with salt, time now for a 'power nap' (That's a nap where you snore loudly but quickly), practice for a second, and go to the show...
Dean Dobbins, the guy who's running the event tonight, says he has the flu: he wont be playing a set himself, so everyone else's set just got 'upped' five minutes: an allotted half an hour a piece! Poor Dean: hope he feels better!
Off I go, to snore for a bit! Getting long in the tooth! I remember the day... I could go on and on and on without so much as a wink.
ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz......... :ele:

Getting long in the tooth! hahahah. I hear ya bro. Going for a nap myself. I remember the day when I couldn't understand WHY my parents slept in the middle of the afternoon? Ho Ho Ho..now I know.

At least I didn't catch the flu...
So far, two of the acts cancelled tonight, on account of the flu-bug going round and round...
So looks like I'll be doing a full set.
Bad, for my sick musician friends, but it means that I can play around on stage a bit more, without worrying about cutting into other people's set-time!
Garrett Swayne, and Dean Dobbins, the MC of the show, are both coughing away, and not feeling in the pink... Poor guys!

AHHHHHHHHHHH. my computer was running so slow I couldn't run the program until I spent 20 minutes unloading some cookies (not literally) and rebooting it. Finally got it to run up and go and the stage was empty but for a fellow in a Neil Diamond blue shirt warming up. ARGH!!!!!! Looked around, scanned the crowd. Kathy was that you sitting stage left? thought I saw your familiar face. Ah well. Good gig? Reports please.

Poor Dances you missed a good one, Earl was wonderful as always.
Patrick and I were sprawled out on the bed. We got really comfy and took off our shoes. One of the camera guys thought that was funny a took a shot of our feet.
Matt/Cybrkathru, Anastasia/The Yesbabe & Matt/Smatt, where also there.
It was a great night!

whatever gremlins were in my computer last night appear to be gone today! Guess my time into it worked but so sad I missed any show. Saw not shot of the bed but it looked like they had a good turnout for the show.

Oh man, so sorry you guys had computer problems last night... It was a fun show! We were the Yesfans corner, off to the stage-left side, in the back...
Harry, I don't think your e-mail came through, but Sheilers and TN Yesfan's e-mails came through! Also, Will and Anita sent an e-mail!
...Wish you guys could have seen the show, but there will definitely be future shows from Kulak's!
And thank you all, those who could log-on or be there, for popping in!
Love you guys!

Just gotta say Earl, I'm becomming a fan. Anita and I loved the set as always. Although it's always too short. Such wonderful music. Clearly above the norm. We had you and Lisa? on through the whole house last night! Sorry we couldn't make it but we''ll see you next time.

Earl, I spent yesterday with my sister cleaning my dad's stuff out of the garage, and went to bed at 6:00 pm!
So sorry I missed your gig - I DO enjoy hearing you so much. I'm glad it went well, and I'm looking forward to hearing you next time!

Hey guys!
Sorry I haven't been on-line much today: When Ivy is here, she kinda' 'bogarts' the computer for hours... Teenagers!
Anyhoo... I just drank a tankard of coffee, and here goes! Marathon Yesfans session... ;)
~~~~~~~
Set List:
1. The Flying Boy
2. Tempe
3. Night Thoughts (From The Midnight Cafe).
4. Seventh Sister
Short Set, I know... I was only alloted 4 songs, so I made sure they were LONG songs! Harhar! I never DID learn to edit: I grew-up on TALES, remember... ;)
Frustratingly short set though: I know.
I was talking with Paul Kulak after the show, about perhaps getting a full night soon.
Kulaks is quite the hot-spot in LA right now, everyone seems to want to play the place nowdays, so it's hard getting more than a short set scheduled: but I'm working on it!
I should probably talk with Severin Browne about playing one of his nights again, as he only schedules two other artists for his shows... Sev wont book the same artist more than once a year, but it's been nearly a year now... I'll talk with him.
~~~~~~~~~
Best received song? I think 'Tempe' went over especially well with the group.
It's always been one of my favorites to play: It has a lot of Catholic symbolism, yet is primarily a 'sex' song: the sacred and the profane, one and the same at times...
Seventh Sister always seems to be everyone's favorite though...
And last night wasn't really an exception.
It's funny: I knew that I had something special with that one, when I wrote it: but it isn't neccessarily my favorite to play: it's HARD to play, technically... And I have to be in a headspace where I'm not thinking about what notes I'm playing, so the story can fly on top of the thing...
Last night I felt I was in that place, which was nice. It's not always like that!
'Midnight Cafe' was the first story-song I ever wrote.
I wrote it when I was 23.
I was in a coffee shop with a pad and paper, I began writing observations, just chronicling the surroundings of a somewhat common and mundane place: The song was written in 'real time', as it happened... And strangely, it had a core of profundity to it.
It felt as though I was notating, all the while, a director's commentary whispered just behind my left ear...
Weird, when you discover the Muse. She's a harsh mistress, but once she has you you either spend the rest of your life courting her, or else you go insane.
~~~~
Anyway, there you go! More than you wanted to know! ;)
~~~~~~~~
After the show, Kathy, Patrick, Matt, Lisa and myself went to David Lynch's favorite diner, 'Dupars'.
Some ordered pie, some ordered fries, some ordered ham on wry... It's becoming our usual post-show ritual!
A night of friends, thoughts and hearts beating in time...
And yes, the cameraman DID focus on the feet stretching out from the edge of the bed... Inimitable.

Glad you caught the show Michael! And thank you: I thought '7th Sis' was in the pocket as well... If I may say so myself... ;)
Brian, I can't keep track of eastern/pacific time mate! So I understand... Next time.
I'm playing Severin Browne's show at Kulak's on April 2nd. And I'll have a full set that night.
I have a non-Kulak's internet show I'm playing before April. I still need to get the details on that one, but I'll let you all know!
...I've also been videotaping the last few shows I've played at Kulaks, and eventually, I hope to be able to make them available to everyone on VCD... ;)

It was the funniest smiley on the site. Oh well.

Sorry I missed your show, Earl....sounds like it was a great one.
Being out east for the holiday made it a little too late for me to be on my brother's PC.
Looking forward to the next one tho.....
Peace,

Earl, my man,
As always, it was great to hear you. Glad you got a longer set too!
It's easy to see why Seventh Sister is such a favorite---it's a gorgeous song.
A funny story--during that tune, I found myself searching for a third harmony to compliment you and Lisa, and was just singing to myself...and I heard Anastasia (seated right behind me) doing the same thing! Whether she and I were singing the same part, I don't know....
I'm sorry we couldn't hang out after your set---we both were famished and not feeling too well on top of it.
It'd be a blast to try and book a dual gig somewhere---maybe 2004 will bring the opportunity, eh?
Incidentally...that icon you were looking for? It's still here...

Reading all these makes me wish I had seen the show. And I do LOVE Seventh Sister!
Earl - if you need someone to weed your shows, I'll be happy to assist! Just let me know when they're available! I really enjoy the video from the YesFans gathering - I've shown it to some friends too who like it as well!

Hey there Cyber-Matt! Hello Diane! Hello John!
Blushing here...
Anyhoo... I'm POSITIVE this next year will see us doing some shows together Matt. It's a given.
The man is a genius of the ivory vistas. And a damned great songwriter. And I couldnt think of anyone in the known world who I would rather share a stage with. A given. Perhaps that little place in Westlake where I heard you recently Matt! Or maybe Kulaks. We'll do it!
You guys should hear Matt's amazing work. A sage. And a poet.
Diane: I'm talking with Paul Kulak about making a compilation video/VCD available in the future... I'll have to pay him for it, as he barely scrapes by as is (There was an article in the LA Times just recently, about how difficult it was to keep Kulak's open, as they run on donations only).
But I'm positive that I'll be able to offer a DVD in the future, of the best moments from the last year...
In the works! ;)
John: I am flattered. You are an amazing musician, and that you would be interested in my musical hiccoughs humbles and flatters me. Thank you brother.
I'll do my best to make a VCD available, from Kulak's, this coming year.
I figure, after I do the show on April 2nd, I'll have enough material to put-out something of worth, and then the sky is no limit.
A deep bow, a nod and a wink... And a :bonghitte
I am a rich man: I have the best friends in the world.

Actually, Earl, I'm not a musician (unless drumming at drum jams counts). I only write about the stuff -- you've heard the old cliche about nonmusician journalists, "Those who can't play, criticize those who can." But, yeah, a CD-R or VCD would be really cool, to see and/or hear what influence our favorite band has on what you create.
Rock On!,
