I recall reading somewhere that due to a falling out during the recording of the album Time And A Word, Peter Banks was mixed out or mixed low.
When I listen to the album, I can clearly hear the guitar. There are points during certain songs, though, where the bass and keyboards are the lead instruments and I don't hear any guitar.
Under normal circumstances I wouldn't think that unusual - especially on a Yes album.
But because of what I read, when ever there's a loud instrumental section with no guitar (for example like in the middle of "The Prophet"), I start wondering if there's any truth to Peter being mixed out.

...due to a falling out during the recording of the album Time And A Word, Peter Banks was mixed out or mixed low. You've got the cart before the horse on this one, Max Webster. The fact that they were using the orchestra in the first place was a sore spot for Peter. The desire within the band had been to be a band that could sound as big as an orchestra with only the five of them playing. That took a lot of creativity and controlled playing – dynamics and such.

When it was decided to add parts of a real orchestra – against Peter’s better judgment - the only way to hear it was to reduce much of Peter's (and, on occasion, Tony’s) work. In many instances, what the orchestra was given to play was exactly what Peter had played in the first place. They just copied his stuff. If they combined the orchestra and Peter, it wouldn’t sound right. Therefore, his performances were mixed low or removed altogether.

That's what, then, led to a further falling out.

P.S. The fact that the American release of the album included a new band photo with Steve was just pouring salt on the wound.

Yes, Dragonfly seems to know his YES trivia.
From the books I have and articles I've read, this was Peter's gripe.
