Just for interest... What would you rate as the most successfully consistent album from Yes? From first track to last? I'd be keen to see which works as a complete piece, best in the majority view. I've got a feeling that I know the answer but it would be more interesting still, to hear the logic behind your picks!

Gonna have to vote for CTTE.
And as for the most successful piece on that album, CTTE.

Fragile - synthesizers and stereo mixing were still young. Voicing improved in later live versions. Bruford's snare drum is not to my liking.

CTTE - I prefer the use of the mellotron for all of the a capella vocal stabs (end of Siberian, beginning of CTTE, the song). You can hear them on Yessongs. And You And I is perfect.

Tales - I wouldn't change a thing.

Relayer - my only contention is the "Cha-cha's" in Sound Chaser. But, the perception of Cha-Cha in the US may be different than elsewhere, so it could be a regional thing. Otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing.

GFTO - Parallels is a throwaway. The trance organ solo in Awaken is too long, as it stalls in the build-up. Too many repititions of a theme. Turn of the Century is perfect.

So, Tales and Relayer.

"The Yes Album" is near perfect, "Close to the Edge" is as good as it gets, and believe it or not; I enjoy the 1st YES album very much. As it was my introduction to YES so many years ago, it holds a special place in my heart.

So is it that the songs on CTTE are all great or is there a more cohesive feeling you get from this album more than any other? Hopefully it's not just that there are less songs on it!! ^u^
