Yes nightliner, now that you mention it, I can see the uncanny resemblance.

Didn't Rick once say that he thought the album should have been called Going for the Bum?

In Harrisburg when we saw Rick, Alec had him sign our album cover, he wrote "Not Me" before his signiture. LOL

Hipgnosis did a lot of covers with nudes:

Humble Pie: "Thunderbox"
Godley/Creme: "Freeze frame"
Cochise: "Cochise"
Toe Fat: "Toe fat"

All pure art, of course.

Montrose: "Jump on it"

Not really a nude, but the only one of these that some might find smutty...?

I drew shorts on him with a black permanent pen ;-) I got tired of having a naked guy's butt on my favorite yes album - favorite album, least favorite cover.

It's interesting that Rush had an album featuring a naked guy about the same time as this. Was 1977-1978 "The Year of the al-BUM Cover" or something?

And WHAT an album! It's one of their best, along with 2112..

Aptly titled Hemispheres... geddit?

You know...

...this was never my favorite YES cover.

I'm confused, but at least not on this issue.

The gatefold of Joni Mitchell's 'For The Roses'. Now THERE'S a butt-cover!
Oh my.

More butt shots, Yes!!!!!

Well hey Sheilers...

I have a new album coming out next year: wanna pose? ;)

Who would want a photo of a nude CD?

I'm so very tired...

How does one answer that?

Sleepy? Me too! :bonghitte: yawn Hittin' the hay soon...

What always got me about the naked butt cover was the bubbles they placed around it. That was un-necessary in my opinion.

The background of the inner sleeve has a really nice nature photo. I think that should have been the cover. Yes were in Switzerland when they made GFTO and missed an opporitunity to have the alps as the album cover.

Does anybody remember when the Hoax From the Edge site still existed and they had the story about how the model on the cover was NOT Trevor Rabin? They also had a picture of an alternate cover with a female nude from the rear to replace the male one?

It might have been cool if they had pressed editions with male and female nudes. There were mulitple covers for Led Zep's "In Through the Out Door", why not Yes have the same?

Is there annual anal annal published that could identify the owner?

(I heard he's now in the Navy as a Rear Admiral)

Rear Admiral - good one Paul!

I always thought that the back cover of the album should have been the reverse view! :)

Maybe, but somehow I don't think a picture of a big skyscraper would generate as much interest. ;)

I meant from the perspective of the man - we could see what is behind him too, and also get a view of his . . .

Oh, nevermind.

For that view, you need to buy the CD with the "Jewel" case. The 12 inch LP was overkill.

Maybe the same guy did the Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers cover? That'll give you a hint, tardis!

Yeah, I don't like leaving this one on top of a pile of CDs, it's kind of annoying. Not the greatest cover ever. I'm all for man-butts, but you've gotta draw the line somewhere.

umgekehrt

I think it's Jon's buttocks.

About cover arts with nudity, that reminds me of the original artwork for ELP's Brain Salad Surgery by H.R. Giger which had something that resembles... er... something that Monica did to Bill in the Oval Office. The record company of course refused to print that and Giger changed it a bit to its current version.

I always think of two things when I see that cover: (1) "Lost in the city" and (2) "Ugh, some guy's butt".

Tell me more about Joni Mitchell's gatefold. I'm not familiar...

Joni Mitchell posed nude for the inner sleeve of the "For the Roses" album. I read in a biography of Joni that at one point it was considered for the front cover.

So, seems quite the double standard here - guys hate the cover, women (at least SOME women) like it.

I'm sure if there were a naked woman on the cover, the guys would LOVE it!

And to get back to the original question here - does ANYONE know who the model was?

I remember wearing my GFTO tour shirt, which had that picture on the back, to church to piss my mom off for making me go.

She turned beet red when she finally saw my back! LOL!

Now, back to that model - who is he, and I wonder what he looks like today?

I became a Yes fan in 75 and when GFTO was about to come out needless to say I was quite excited. Then the day came, and I thought "I waited 2 years to get a cover like THAT?". I hated it!! Fortunately, the album was great so that helped, but it's my #1 worst album cover of all time.

I'm a girl and I dislike the cover! I somehow managed to fold up the
picture so you can only see the buildings, without the horrible guy.

Dumb cover. Didn't get it. Never liked it. I agree about the inside. I love those photos and I think there could have something done more in that vein that would have matched the music better. Never been a big Hipgnosis fan in any case, although I do like Wish You Were Here (that was Hipgnosis, right? Can't remember off hand).

Anyway. Nice butt, sure. But bad cover.

Well, Wakeman had just come back to the band and the lineup was just like the lineup today.

For old time's sake, I wonder if they need a guy's rear for the next album? Will they hold auditions with Yesfan members given priority? Must I possess a platinum "package"?

But (:D), I suggest they use a hologram of a lady's rump. I nominate _________(fill in the blank)

I think the point of the cover was to say how crappy the commercialization of music was and also a comment on punk music. The “ass” is Adam (from Genesis) arriving at a concrete Jungle. I agree with the social comment but I’m not really interested in male the ass. However I do not have a problem with the cover, the ass is there, I have accepted it and I deal with it by listening to any of the 5 tracks ...G4T1 is a gem.

Why not just get that dude who posed for GFTO and let him do it one more time, saggy cheeks and all... Hey, it's like a "before-and-after" photo shoot, see?

Somehow I doubt it.

But I'm not going to look at it again to check and see!

To me, it doesn't look like Adam in a Concrete Jungle; more like Adam
trying to compare his "One" with the skyscrapers around !

I still think we should submit the winners of a Yesfans contest. Perhaps it would get the guys motor running for a new release?

Do we have any volunteers?
Do we have any applicants?
Do we have any nominations?

I agree with this. I don't believe the cover was intended to be controversial or funny, at least at the time anyway. Yes album covers up to then had generally been quite thoughtful. The liner notes of the recent Rhino re-issue of GFTO give a good explanation of the front cover and the deliberate contrast with the inner photo montage over the photo of Lake Geneva.

I think the point of the cover was to say how crappy the commercialization of music was and also a comment on punk music. The “ass” is Adam (from Genesis) arriving at a concrete Jungle. I don't remember there being an "Adam" in Genesis. There's Peter, then there's Tony, Mike, Steve, Ant, Phil, maybe Chester and Daryl, but no Adam.
