Oh, that's ok Cecile! I KNOW you can talk to those in charge, and have them reschedule the eclipse for the 13th. ;)

Thanks Don! I'll keep the thread running (publicity, you know... HAR!).

Glendo: We would TOTALLY get along musically. I've heard nothing but brilliant reviews of your shows, plus we're buddies: That ALWAYS helps in musical endeavors!

I've got to tell you, I had the pleasure of jamming with 'CyberKhatru' from the site tonight: the guy is an AMAZING keyboardist! He was playing Wakey 'spot-on'. All the notes, all of the feel. What fun it was! He's going into the studio with me next time, for positive-sure!

Thanks again guys! Can't wait to see you at 'Kulaks' (They have a computer monitor set up on stage, so I can read your e-mails as you send them, and respond to them from stage! My favorite part about playing at Kulak's.

Always a special night for me...

I feel honored that you know the song, and want to hear it again friend!

Hi there Dee! Hey, I've taken to drinking Kona coffee since getting back from Hawaii. It's stronger than your average brew, but less acidic. I highly recommend it! Just TRY and fall asleep after drinking 'Kona'!

The current administration will probably try and outlaw the stuff, so I guess I ought to hoard a few crates, now that I'm hooked. ;)

Ironically, Glendo, I was discussing that very thing with Earl yesterday. I told him that I thought you were an excellent keyboardist, and that if he does a West Coast tour, that you two should collaborate when doing the Chico area gig!

Great news Earl! Anita and I will be there. And for any of you who haven't seen and heard him before, it's well worth staying up for. Heck, just take a nap at work Thursday and you'll be good to go.

Hey y'all!

Now now Richard and Kirk... Don't fight, or I'll MODERATE ya! HAR! :ele: Such authority, I scare myself.....

Yeah, it's this coming thursday. Kirk, what was that about the seventies? I forget what you said man... Did I just say that, or did I think that? Pass me that thing, wouldja? :bonghitte Thanx dude. :ele:

So, It looks like I go on around 8:40 pm or so. The other artists on the bill are really cool too! So be sure to check the whole show out.

Garret Swayne, who put the whole thing together, has been a buddy of mine since the late 80's: a fine singer/songwriter! And a good friend.

Lisa Turner is another old friend of mine, I played all the guitars on her last album, and used to be the lead guitarist in her band.
Lisa Turner opens the show at 8:00. She reminds me of a cross between Tull and Fairport, an awesome songwriter! And not hard on the eyes at all... :D

Kevin Fisher of the band 'Naked To The World' will be playing a little later in the evening: Naked To The World was the Wonderstuff!
They had one of the strongest indi followings I've ever seen: a fantastic, 'prog' influenced band, and it will be a treat to hear Kevin solo: I don't think I ever have before...

A fun night all the way around, and there will be a free-for-all jam session at the end of the show!

And Ridvan and Anita will be there? Coolness! Ah, my dear friends...
Smatt and Silent Wings will be there too! Now if I can talk Spedblavio into coming out... ;)

I LOVE playing at Kulak's: I guess it's my favorite place to gig right now... Be there or be rectangular!

So Earl is that a new one, or just new to us?

I finally found one of the older kids to watch the younger ones. Cold hard cash does wonders.

That means Cassie and her bunch of wanta-be-goth friends, except for poor Luke who is babysitting, will be showing up too. :D

'Strangest Of Times': It's a couple of years old, I think you may have heard it... It's more 'Yessish' than some of my stuff though...

Wanna-be-Goth-kids: Maybe I should play some 'Cure' or something? Hey! I used to do a cover of 'Love Song' by The Cure... Thar ya go!

Eri: You're going to tune-in? Coolness!

I like that one! I always loved Fascination Street'. by The Cure.

Hey, they were my favorite band in the 80s.

'Mixed Up' was a cool album.

Alas, I only play 'Love Song'. And it's been a while. I still know it though.

That was fun Earl . . . thanks for sharing! Great set too! Was Astro Turf (is that correct?) the first song you did? If not I missed the first tune. I tried to email ya.

I was having buffering problems, so my recording attempt was sabatoged by Windows or somebody similar. Oh well. I still managed to enjoy what I could see, and I especially enjoyed "7th Sister" ~ that's a good tune, man!

So much fun! It was fun to hear you reading emails from our friends.

Yes, buffering sucks! But, this is the first time I've been able to attend a broadcast at all.

Good show Earl. Thanks for playing Zion, one of my faves.
Dawnbreaker (AKA Anita) and I were there as well. It is a great little coffee house type place. Reminds me of the many little places of music years ago that sadly are no longer around. How cool is it now to be able to add a 21st century twist and share the event with friends around the world.
Thanks eri-chan for the screen shots. We now have a few "photos" of our date last night. :popcorn:

I enjoyed the show as well despite buffering problems. Usually I don't have those. I followed the link on Kulak's website suggesting I download Windows Media Player 9 - which I did, but it didn't seem to solve the problems. But, was good to see Earl in action anyway!

And thanks for playing Seventh Sister - I really enjoy that one!

You know... Kulak's is my favorite place to play: my favorite place of all, because of the simulcast option... And I've been blessed to have played some really cool rooms in LA... But getting to have all of you there, it truly lifts my soul into the sweetest place. I guess my two favorite things are playing music, and hanging out with you all: and when the two mix, I Have Heaven!

I wish I could simulcast every gig for you all: as it is, I'll play at Kulak's WHENEVER I can... I'll be back on December 26th.

Before I even started playing last night, Sheilers e-mailed me! That was the hands-down COOLEST!
And Sheilers, I didn't know they were still braodcasting at the end when I played 'I'm So Tired'! ...Wish I'd known: I had them videotape my portion of the show, but they turned off the recorder by that time... Darn!
Your sweet e-mail after 7th Sister was the last one they put on the screen, and it was such a dear thing! Hugs and kisses back at'cha!

Kathi: yeah, I'm sure the DEA will be pounding on my door after your meershuam-pipe comment! HAR! ;) ...Only those who are 'in the know' bonghitte: would have gotten that one anyway! HAR! I LOVE my 'Felix' shirt: I hand wash it, so it will last forever: it's my good-luck talisman!

What did you guys think of Lisa Turner's set? I played all the guitars on her first album, ...she played and sang in my last 'band' venture: it was a real treat getting to hear her last night (It's been awhile... I love her new song, 'Repunzel'). A wonderwoman of a friend: we go back some years!

TNYesfan: I was SO happy that you were there! I love it whenever one of the 'literati' pops in! Those words were for you last night, you book-lover you!

Eri: you're such a dearheart! Hey, next time I'll play a CURE song for ya! ...Limited stage-time last night, but I do a decent version of 'Love Song'. Maybe when I play there in December (Remind me, ok?! ...Brain like a sieve while on stage!). I LOVED the photos you posted: I agree with Kathi here, you are a computer goddess! ...Wish I knew what the hell I was doing on this keyboard-thingy. I still think this is a kicked-up underwood typewriter. ;)

Diane: your e-mail was one of the first ones I received: it's always, EVER and always my greatest pleasure to play for you... I wish you lived closer: you would feel SO at home at Kulak's! Such a comfy room...

Dantalion: Yeah buddy, you missed the first song, 'Strangest Of Times': but I did get a video of the show: if you know anyone who can copy it to VCD, I'll weed it out: I think you would have liked the first song: one of my more Yessish ones I think! You are a good brother.

Yesiam: Coolness! So you were there as well? SO glad you could pop in! Come back now, you hear?! ;)

*There was one guy who e-mailed from Manitoba, Canada. Was he one of us? I didn't recognize his name from the site... Hmm...* I thought it might have been one of your buddies Shifty!

Glendo: So you were there also?! I'm presuming you were (Your quote of the 'watering down of beer' in Zion! They DO water down your beer in Utah you know. An unconsciable thing.). So now you've heard me, see? We'd gel perfectly in a musical setting huh?! One of these days.

Peggy! Oh man, I wish you'd been in the room last night: I MISS your laughter, woman! I would have told more jokes if you'd been there 'in person'!

It was a very special night for me: man oh man, I'm getting SO spoiled!

Kathy and Patrick, Will and Anita, Matt and Anastatia... Right there in the room with me! And all of you on-line... My favorite people on the earth. I am a blessed man to have such amazing friends.

This is the best time of my life. I mean that. Given the choice of living in any time-period in this lifetime, I would choose to be right here, right now.

You guys rock my world in the sweetest way imaginable. My best friends ever, my happiest days, and it is now now NOW!

I am truly blessed.

I love you all. I love you all, deep within my heart. I hold you to my soul, ever and always, every note, every word: this is my forever valentine to you, my fellow Yesfans.

Blessed. I'm so blessed.

Ah Patty-Bear! They must have you on some good drugs! Hey, you would've liked my song 'Astroturf' i think. A bit of a sexual-romp, that one! Tastfully rendered, but the gist of the thing is a couple getting it on on the roof of a skyscraper in Los Angeles.

It was based on a true story: A friend of mine and his girlfriend were living in the Park LaBrea Apartments: she had a penthouse, and they would sneak up to the tip-top roof at night, and 'do the deed' under the stars, the city lights below... The roof of the building had an 'Astroturf' lawn: he'd skin his knees on the thing!
'Astroturf' is my codified term for that interesting 'herbal enhancer' as well, so with the two running references in tow, the song was a must to write! It sort-of wrote itself, in all actuality: I just penned the thing as it spun.

Methinks you'd like.

Anyhoo, I'll play it for you one of these days. Hope you're feelin' better Patty-Bear.

:ele:

Here's the lyrics:

Astroturf

She thought he hung the moon
His name, it was on her lips
When he took her up to the roof that night,
she became
a total eclipse
a total eclipse from her head to her hips

He saw her as the sun
shining through the overcast
burning through the thick grey fog
and exposing all of the past
all of his past was exposed in her light
and it was alright

It was alright...

They climbed up to the roof
she spun there like a star
in the strobe-light of her deep blue eyes
he played an acoustic guitar
an acoustic guitar in the electric night
and it was alright.

It was alright.

They were rolling astroturf
high above LaBrea Hieghts
...and he skinned more than his knees up there
...and she got a run in her tights
a run in her tights, through the garden of delights
and it was alright...

It was alright.

Hi, Earl - You're right - I would LOVE Kulak's! Perhaps I can arrange a trip sometime when you're playing and get to experience it in person!

And thanks for posting the lyrics to Astroturf. I hadn't heard that one before, and loved the sensuality portrayed. Made me wish I was on that roof under the stars! LOL

GREAT song! hahahha Superb! Your lyrics are so visual Earl. I love your voice too. Reminds me so much of Fogelberg. (compliment)

some day, Kulaks front door knob and me will clasp and shake. I love that bed. What a cool venue. I imagine there are several cool venues around there. One thing I am surely envious of!

Well Earl, I'd say that you have your dedicated, devoted fan base here on Yesfans. The show was really excellent!

Okay everyone, here is my idea....... we hold the next Yesfans gathering in conjunction with a Yes show in L.A. We all attend Earl's live performance at Kulak's, and if we're really fortunate, the owner of Kulak's (Ron, is it?) will let our other Yesfans friends play there as well. I'm reserving my spot on the bed!

YesFan night at Kulak's! Sounds great!

Can you imagine how wired we'll all be if we've just seen/about to see Yes! Especially if they play for 3 1/2 hours! Would be a magical event, for sure!

Yep, I think Zion was my favorite. You have a beautiful voice! December 26th, eh? Susan and I will probably be in LA for Christmas if she can get time off. Hope to see you then.

I've gone through 20 years worth of demos and studio things that I've recorded, and I've whittled it down to a ninety minute tape, which I'll make an 'official' bootleg CD from...

I will start work on a new studio album in late December, or early January...

But until I get the new project done (The working title of the new album: 'Mystery's Mandala'), I'll make 'The Dream Of The Magus' available to you, so there's at least something out there other than 'Lover's Ridge'...

It is a non-career overview, a 'set without a box' (cute huh?).
...I listened a lot of my old recordings over the last few days, and think I've got the thing set to burn.
I just need to remaster (...Have to talk with CyberKhatru about that one! He's got some cool 'eq' toys, I'll tell ya! HAHA!), and then I'll burn it from tape to CDR...

Some songs are rough demos from many moons ago, other songs are state of the art, full band productions from the 'great aborted project' from three years ago.

This is the track-list of 'The Dream Of The Magus' as it stands:
~~~~~~~~~~~
Earl Grey: The Dream Of The Magus.
*Phase 1* Mirrorshades- One Dark Dream
1. Miranda. [Judgement, and the 8th card of the Major Arcana]
2. I Amnesia
3. Thorns [The 9th Of Swords].
4. Tongue [A sexual cork. The 11th card of the Major Arcana]
5. His Melinda [Alcohol takes hold: Don't pass GO, don't collect $200.00]
6. I Amnesia [Slight return: whalesongs of the souldiver].
*Phase 2* Ancient Astronauts Go Wild- The Talking God/Shelter.
7. Tall House. [Anasazi ghosts move over the face of the deep]
8. Beemers. [Entropy's Engine/The Starcrossed]
9. Astroturf. [The 11th card of the Major Arcana]
10. Ambient Nothingness [Silence is the sweetest song]
*Phase 3* Highway Flair- The Near Past.
11. Green Anesthesia. [National Anthem of the Bonghittites]
12. Rain Poem. [Card 6 of the Major Arcana]
13. The Dancer. [Love acts achieved in the troposphere]
14. Catching Shadows. [Back to the bars: Club Lingere, circa 1988]
15. Nancy It's You. [The Wedding SOng/prelude to seperation]
16. One After Another [Repentance: Alas, too late!]
*Phase 4* My Purple Period, and The Deep Blue Past.
17. The Flying Boy. [Peter Pan wonders where Wendy is]
18. Sad Days/Sad Nights. [Night creeps in the window, and grins]
19. Lost In Time. [Innocence ruminates, and discovers nostalgia]
20. Around The Whole World In One Day. [Not the PRINCE song ;)]
21. Light Years. [Is it hymn or her? Love and The Goddess with a thousand faces]
~~~~~~~~~~~

There you go: packaging may be somewhat, er, [I]primitive: So, you can print this out to put in the CD case once you have it...

Anyhow, I plan to have this available within a couple of weeks!

See? I CAN actually accomplish something, if I put my mind to it!!! ;) :ele: :ele: :ele: :ele:

Soon oh soon! You asked for it.

Love,
Earlie:ele:

Haha! Well, what the hell... The master tapes were lost in the housefire, but the cassettes from the masters sound pretty good... The version of 'Tall House' (That was the opening number I played in Chicago) has the flutist from Dave Matthews Band on it... Kathi will like, I think!) is pretty killer.

Anyhow, it's what it is: not store-bought quality, but this aint no store! ;)

Earl, I really like Sheila's idea. Would there be anyway to get a whole night at Kulak's? A YesFan night? We could have several guests play then have a group jam at the end, something sort of simple, an ISAGP or something. I would love to play a 20 minute set.
The YesFan's from across the country emailing...the audience all of us!

the better it sounds, and the fans who couldnt make it would still be able to participate via computer..
[and MAN! you west-coasters will do anything to get a party going in YOUR neighborhood! ;) ]

and i disagree, earl! this IS a store!! a yesfans store=a storehouse of all things musical.. hehe
but ya gotta send me that tape with tall house, PLEASE?? i'll give it a shot.. [says upbgirl quietly-hands sweating already]
the new discs sound WONDERFUL..
and have ya thought about letting an artist [patty-rob] come up with the artwork for the case? you aint such a bad drawer yourself earlie..
let us know when it's ready, ok?
Q will be excited.. [btw-where has he been?]
i'd be more than willing to buy the 'set without the box'.. hehe
[hey! that might be a good title.. lol!]
