Lap Steel Guitar is a book about the history of this instrument. Go to this link and look at the part of the page that shows "Artists Interviewed/Profiled Include:". You will find Steve listed under Rock.

This is what I admire in Steve. The acoustic guitar field knows of him. The electric guitar field knows of him. The steel guitar field knows of him.

He just is NOT a one-trick-pony guitarist. He can take different guitars and apply it's essence to his music and style without playing the same notes.

Just compare these examples of Steve's playing:

Mood for a Day & Clap - acoustic
To Be Over & Soon - lap and pedal steel
CTTE & Sound Chaser - Gibson and Fender electric

Each application of the instrument seems made for the instrument AND for the music. Each example is disparate to the other, but both in the same category. To me, this is what a great instrumentalist does.

For the umpteenth time, way to go, Steve!

Here is the Table of Contents of this book. You'll find Steve amongst these diverse players on page 199. In researching my purchase of steels I have spoken with a few of the people listed, too.

Very Cool!

Pete Grant, under 'American Roots', is an old friend of mine. He played a session for me once, and I asked him to do something that sounded like Steve Howe!

He did. He kept his foot off the 'pedal', and turned-on the delay!

This sounds like a cool book... Howe is SO eclectic, and as with his acoustic and electric work, Howe seems to make the instrument his own on any turf.

Noone else sounds quite like Steve Howe on steel guitar, though many (myself included) have copied him.

[and now, i will mention some of those names you provided to my uncle dave, who plays banjo, guitar and steel.. he will be impressed i know.. hehe]
