At last he has proper credit for his work with Cat Stevens - in this list, anyway. Rick told a very funny story in concert about how he never got credit (and never got paid) for the piano part of "Morning Has Broken", and how he got even!

Rick had agreed to play on Morning Has Broken for just a session fee, which in those days was only about $12. But he never got paid. Also, he never got credit anywhere for playing on the song, and the explanation he got was, "oh well, Cat Stevens never credits anyone."

When the song became a huge hit and Cat Stevens was preparing to go on the road, Rick got a call from his manager. He said, Cat's keyboardist doesn't understand how Rick played the piece, and could Rick please come and show him?

Rick said, "ummmm, no."

He says that, to this day, he will get a call once in awhile from someone who is remastering Stevens' tapes or whatever, saying "we can't find a transcription anywhere of your piano part."

Rick says, "that's because I never made one".

"Oh, well, could you make one for us now?"

"ummmm, no."

It was much funnier when he told it live, of course. Then he sat down and played the song on the baby grand, and it was absolute magic. I find myself humming the song now and smiling, remembering how beautiful it was.

I can imagine how it must have been. He´s so good in telling stories. Is there a thread where you can post stories he told???
On a DVD LIve from Buenos Aires he tells a story about why he´s wearing a cloak always. I hope I didn´t get anything wrong. Well I´ll tell it how I understood it. Once some people told him after his show, that it looks very weird how he always contords himself to reach the keys. And then he saw a DJ in a long cloak and he asked him wether he could buy this cloak and the Dj said, that it´s not for sale. Rick said, that he´d give him 100$ - No. 150$ - No. Hey mate I have 200$ in my pocket this is all I have, please give it to me and so he bought it for 200$ to hide his strange contortions from the audience. Later he wanted to sell it for caritable purpose, but just before the auction ended he bought it back himself.:-) if something´s wrong with the story fell free to change it.
