I waited a couple of minutes but did not see my previous post, so again (in case I hit the wrong button instead of submit).
First off; thanks for all of your time and hard work in addressing all the multitude of various issues that come up what seem so regularly.
My question, what are the impediments to introducing an automatic refresh feature for the site when someone is logged in? Just asking......

I have looked into the refresh thing, no luck on it just yet.

First, off, congrats 1yesfan. This is a very nice site you're running. The software is pretty good, very easy and fun to use.

I saw John Paul Jones mentioned in the King Crimson forum, and I thought to myself, I would like to have a Led Zeppelin forum too. After all, it's not even completely OT; remember XYZ?

I find the site excellent. I'm not member of any other forum but I am now addicted to this one. So far I don't have any suggestion but like I- and - I , I think a chat room would be a nice addition and would avoid digressions in the main threads. It seems that we, Yes fans, need to have more dialogue between us. Thanks for the good job you're doing.

Tim,

Can't you just have a chat forum on this site? Yestalk has one but the time elapsed from typing, hitting post and when it shows up is very slow and annoying. I don't know why. Also the Yahoo Club has a chat right? I never partook in the Tues or Sun group chats, but I see you post there once in awhile, why not ask Scott and David how you should go about it, seeing as they are right in the middle of setting up their new site. Just a thought.

Posting and private messages are okay, but real time chat would be nice....it's so much easier to get to know someone better if you can have a one on one (or even a group) conversation.

Oh and I agree Tim...great site. I can't stay away. I love it here.

the recipe room i moderate at
is similiar software as here

the admin loaded a chatroom and the bandwidth went out the roof

but...... she now opened a chat community on msn, and used an icon button with the list on the top of the page where the register and stuff is

its been working well, its a nice chat space moves at good speed and so on

you can check it out at www.apinchofthis.com like i said the chat can be accessed thru a click on in the top where you list the user cp and reg and stuff

You asked for ideas but mine may be of a different nature.
I have no complaints about the site, whatsoever.
What Idea I have in mind though is trying to get some way for YES to adopt the multiple shows-different setlists each night policy.
If they do 2 or 3 nights in one city and cover a broader sprectrum of their works I think it would make everyone alot happier and keep people coming(selling the place out). Of coarse there'd have to be the set standards but to throw in a few changes to add to the excitement would be good for all.
How can this be accomplished????

Thanks for this site. I log in at least once each working day. It makes a good change from all the numbers that I'm supposed to be looking at.
Nice to read other peoples opinions and experiences.
Would love to meet up with you all one day....

But as I have:
a) a young kid;
b) another on the way;
c) a car loan to pay off here in Dubai;
d) a mortgage to pay off in the UK;
e) astronomical airfares from the UAE to the US
I doubt that i'll be able to make it to the US in the summer....
But having said that.... you never know what can happen.
I may yet just fly over for the hell of it.....

It would be very cool. And you would have memories for a lifetime. Hope you can make it.

I noticed that the members profile do not mention if the person is male or female. Is that a deliberate choice ? Because I found me reading posts of fans thinking they were male and then discovered they were female or the contrary. I know everyone is supposed to keep his privacy but I don't think that would be a problem for Yes fans. What do you think ?

02-15-2002, 11:02 AM
Not sure Flo. Tell me some of your ideas why it could be a problem. I know sometimes I've been wrong and sometimes I had an idea and was right---but either way, it did not affect how I posted to them. Sometimes gender pronouns get mixed up. I've seen that with some responses. Now if this were a dating service, then I could see a problem. But as our guys are the focus of affection here, it doesn't seem to be a problem for me--anyway. But I'd love to hear your point of view.

Flo
02-15-2002, 11:41 AM
I definitely think that profiles should mention Female or Male. It would make it more friendly. I like conversing with somebody and not just a name.

Flo
02-15-2002, 11:44 AM
Anyway if people prefer not to mention it, I won't see it as a problem. Sure that Yes fans remain Yes fans whaterver the sex. That was just a suggestion.

02-15-2002, 04:26 PM
Thanks for your thoughts Flo. Friendly is always better.

Raz...that is my sentimaents and also my problem.

I have this dream that one day we will all meet. Put faces to names and tags and have a week or so of Yes talk, music and concerts, not to mention the "socialising" we could enjoy. if and when it can happen is hard to say as being in Oz is a bit like your situation. Its a long way to go and very expensive. But lets hang on to these dreams as you never know......................!!!!!

Yeah, wouldn't it be cool if everybody on this site scheduled their holidays so we could all meet up, get Yes to play and also have a cool holiday too.... it could be at Yosemite, where the views are wonderful, and not too far from the sea side or Vegas if you are that way inclined...
the family could come too of course and meet fellow family members of yes fans so they could discuss their disbelierf at the lengths at which we, fans, go to to see the band.....
and get this.... it's all FREE.....
yeap, some really kind multi millionaire pays for it all, it's screened live on TV and the advertising re-imburses the benefactor (who doesn't really need the cash).
So, who has got the ear of say, the Sultan of Brunai, or Bill Gates, or that other bloke who is really rich, but i've forgot his name now.
Get on their case and get them to set this up....
We could have different line ups playing, and maybe different Yes associated bands (eg UK or ASIA) doing spots...
solo spots too... a Yesfest that lasts 1 week.... sheesh...
KOOOOOL or what.

I agree with Yessiree: no matter...
To know if a Yesfan is male or female does not create any problem if you are speaking English: this is a problem in Italian, because all words are male or female and every word has to finish in right way.
Also I think this can't allow any kind of wrong message (concerning the content)

P.S.: I'm male...

In France (and most European countries) we have just changed from winter time to summer time during last week-end. Which means there is one hour more. The time which appears on my Yesfans does not correspond to the actual time in Paris. Is it normal ?

04-07-2002, 02:34 PM
Hey Flo, I'm wondering if it has changed for you now as our daylight savings time just happened today over here.

raz
04-08-2002, 12:46 AM
The clocks don't change here in Dubai... but i remember when I was back home living in the UK I used to hate it when they did.... I would hate having to get up extra early in the autumn/fall and I hated having to go to bed in the spring - even tho i was not tired.... I liked the extra hour in bed in the morning tho...

I could never remember which way round the changes went either... moved my watch the wrong way one year and so I was 2 hours out!

Then one kind fellow told me this reminder...
the clocks Fall BACK and Spring FORWARD...
does that make sense?

Flo
04-08-2002, 04:11 AM
Yessiree,
We've got daylight until about 9h00 PM right now. And it's going to strech up to 10h15 - 10h30 PM by June. Long summer evenings as I like them. This allow more outdoors activities, foret walks, nice dinners in the garden (when I'm out of the capital), etc.

04-08-2002, 09:25 PM
Hey Flo, I'm wondering, now that we are both on daylight savings time, is the clock thing fixed for you when you visit Yesfans? And speaking of long summer nights, walking around Paris sounds like a great deal of fun to me! Lucky You!

And Raz, your friend gave you sound advice. Your clocks don't change, huh? Well I think I heard that the reason they began the change for us was because of the agrarian culture. Perhaps you guys never had much of that.

raz
04-09-2002, 12:29 AM
yeah, I was told when I was a kid in school that the clocks moved about so that farmers had more daylight time at night to bring in his animals, or harvest his crops...
it helped out during WWII some how as well, but i'm not quite sure how...
in dubai the clocks don't change because the hours of daylight don't change much throughout the year...
there is about a 2 to 3 hour difference b/w the summer and winter, but that's all.
not like the UK where in the winter it could be dark by 4.30pm and in mid-summer, still light at past 10 pm.... when i was a kid i hated that... being sent to bed when it was still light out...
I remember having a job in a hotel when i was in my teens... in the summer, I would get to work about 6 pm and leave about 4 am, and I would never see darkness!

A light bulb is over my head!...Heywhaddayaknow, I think it is an idea! I'm so excited! Just when I thought I wouldn't have any ideas to share with the good people who put together this fantastic board, lo and behold....Let me step aside quickly and get myself a pencil and paper before I forget this great idea.....

That's funny. The light bulb didn't follow. Must be stuck on the ceiling or something. Mmmmmm....Hey, there's a ceiling over my head! We all know what that means: Idea time!!! Here goes:

I propose one of those internet petition thingamagigys to get Yes on VH-1's "Behind the Music", and another one to get the Yes into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Put the url link at the top of the page with some nice fancy graphic.

Well that's it. I've worn out every last ounce of idea power from this ceiling. It is now a very stupid ceiling (no wisecracks, please). I shall try another room and get back to ya's.

Rock on...

(By the way, how come there are no little icons of light bulbs or ceilings for us to use? Just a little pet peeve of mine.)

Yessiree, the time is ok. I'm on Yestime (universal time ?). By the way I didn't know you changed clocks too in the USA. Many people complain here about it, arguing it's altering their internal body rhythm and saying it's anti ecological. They might be right but I do appreciate long summer days.

You know what'd be the ultimate addition to this site? If you could have contests, raffles, or just something of the sort to help us get free YES tickets or passes for meet & greets, I think that would please us all more than anything.
But I still can't complain too much about how great this site is otherwise.
Keep up the good work.

Yes, I like it too, except for the first couple of nights. It takes a while for me to get back into my sleep rhythm/cycle.

You are entirely correct grasshopper. Free tickets would be sweet, but I would not object to making available close tickets that we could pay for. We should get first crack at the best seats, I think. Hey Tim, call Jon and see what he can do for us. hahaha

raz
04-10-2002, 12:57 AM
You know, I heard some place that in one of the more recent tours you could get 'close' tickets thru Yesworld... but in reality this did not work out to be the case in some of the venues...
i guess that if the 'band' 'bought' a block of seats for each show, and then issues these to YesWorld to distribute to us lucky fans, then things could work out.
There could even be a 'tour laminate' up for auction, with all the proceeds going to charity...

1yesfan
04-10-2002, 01:10 AM
Don't look for any free tix or back stage passed through this site. Nothing free appears to be coming from Yesworld or any Yes related outlets.
What I may do is just put togther a CASH package to give out via a contest, cash that would offset your tix costs for the show you may have seen. Perhaps I could set up a Pay Pal/PO box for folks to DONATE a couple bucks towards a POT LUCK type of thing. Only problem we may have is doing this outside of the USA.

raz
04-10-2002, 01:41 AM
Yeah, that's a good thought... about having a pot/lottery kinda way of getting tickets... could even discount a load of them too..
whatever...
I have found, in the past, that most Yes fans are very accomodating when it comes to overseas Yesfans...
I've been housed when I've been following the band around the states, and in turn I housed a couple of folks when they flew in to London to watch some shows (when I was back in the UK).
Thats the best thing about YesFans. In my experience, all I had to do was get on a jet, cross the pond, shell out a few bucks for gas, food and drink and the rest was covered by my pals over there!
Oh, and if Yes play over in Dubai... look me up folks!
(what are the chances of this occuring? Well Roger Waters plays here on the 13 & 14th!)

Don't need cash or free tickets or even back stage passes. I'm willing to pay big for front row tix and I'd rather give the guys the $$$ instead of a scalper. Tim, perhaps if you could get us access to tons of front row seats and have all the proceeds go to Yes, everyone would be happy.

raz
04-10-2002, 01:58 AM
Folks I have a question....

How do those so called 'scalpers' get such good tickets?
Do they know some poeple whom us normal folks should not know?
Is this all a part of the shady underworld of rock music...?
are these 'scalpers' lads on the first rung of the music industry executive ladder?
I once had a spare ticket to sell, and ok it wasn't the best seat, but you got a good view (I was sitting 1 seat away), and I was trying to sell it for face value outside a concert...
I ended up making a loss, but after the show I asked the person who ended up in that seat what he paid and it was 3 times the tickets cover price....
OK, I understand the desire to see the show, but that is really a shame.
I think that it may be a good idea for fans with spare tickets to congregate around the left side of the venue's entrance, so that fans who need tickets can end up buying their tickets at a reasonable price form another fan who is not about the take them for all they have got.
Just an Idea.....

oh this was my 250th post... cool!

04-10-2002, 02:53 AM
You're right raz! I don't know how the scalpers get their tickets--the business scalpers anyway. One I bought did not even have a price printed on it. And I could be wrong but I don't think that they are Yes fans that do this to one another. I think it is some kind of business that has connections somehow. I'd gladly pay the cash to Yes but scalpers have the tickets. Now if only Jon would call me and say, "Pat, I have your tickets, when can we get together?", I could bypass the scalpers completely.

Regarding your 250th post, Way Cool Raz!

grasshopper
04-10-2002, 02:04 PM
How these scalpers get such good seats is that they have mafia ties.
Please just don't sent anyone out to hit me off for saying so, but it's true.

04-11-2002, 11:57 AM
Really? Wow, I never knew? Mafia, huh? I promise I won't send anyone your way. I guess you'd almost have to be Mafia to get tickets that good on a regular enough basis to have a business focused on getting the best seats.

I do not know what it would take to do this, but I have an idea for the Yesfans site. Have YES music constantly playing while registered members are online. Go a step further and make it like a jukebox. Give each registered member an OPIOnion of what album they want to listen to, while online.

Anyone want to add to this?

I totally agree. It would take too long to load pages and basically all you'd really be able to get is MIDI crap unless you waited forever for the real thing to load.
