Will wonders never cease?
No! They won't!
I just recently discovered that one can upload MP3's to Amazon.com for FREE. I already knew that some artists offered free MP3 downloads, but I didn't realize they could be posted for free, even if one does not have a CD for sale there.
Well, I've long wondered how I might easily share with my fellow Yesfans some of the music I've recorded, and lo and behold, here it is!
You can listen to (select open instead of save after clicking on the download link) or download one of my recordings here:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000E6DTW/102-8644023-3793747?v=glance&n=470236
It's a long piece, almost 10min, so if you're on modem it might take a bit. I had to use a lower sound quality to get it under Amazon's 10MB limit, but it still sounds pretty good. Be aware that the 30sec sample only gives a taste of the intro section, not what the whole piece sounds like.
I hope you'll give it a listen and let me know what you think!

Ok, this is partially a ploy to move this post back up on the list of Today's Posts :D , but I did notice that the download didn't seem to be working for much of today. It seems to be working ok now, so if anyone tried earlier and had trouble, please try again!
spedblavio- 'thought i'd return the favor.
very interesting! good use of orchestra sounds.
the trombone sound was very upfront, well
produced.
i'm not sure if i'd call this progressive rock.
i'll try to listen to it all
instead of the sample.
(i like asterix also).

(i like asterix also). Ok, now that you say that, it comes to my mind that Asterix was a comic character from the 30's, or something like that? That may have been a subliminal connection, but it wasn't a conscious part of naming the piece. Now I'm interested in finding out more about Asterix though.
Anyway, thanks very much for listening! I've uploaded a bunch more, should appear in the next day or 2. I'll post a new link when it does.
s- actually, all the omds(online music distribution)
sites work pretty much the same way as amazon.
some sell cds or individual tunes (such as apple itunes)
or provide exposure through free downloads.
there's no requirement of having a cd for sale to join.
you should spread yourself around, see what kind of reaction you receive from your music.
have a thick skin, you can't please everyone, nor should you try to as an artist.
there's plenty of listeners that'll like your stuff.
i've had 20 no.1 tunes in diverse categories from electronic
to newage, classical, world rock on 4 sites. i have a friend that's on over 3000,
although i can't see where he finds the time.
i'm mainly interested in commercial production, but occasionally a tune that i think merits posting goes to the sites,
sort of dual-purpose. now that i'm branching out a bit from a solo, we're pushing more towards a progressive mode.
it's hard for a one man band to cover all the bases,
so i go for more of a vangelis, jmj angle.
if you'd like some guidance, i'd be glad to help in whatever way i can.
btw-asterix is a british character available in graphic novel form,
published in the 70's.
hey..where's fornia?

Thank you for the input, kirk, and your offer of guidance, I really appreciate it. I'm excited by the possibilities available now.
Have you looked into CDBaby.com? They're currently working on digital distribution in addition to being an online indie CD store, establishing deals with iTunes and others (I think they will only be working with complete albums though).
Fornia = as our new govenor would say, "Cauly-fornia". (I'm in Santa Monica).
hahaha first jesse ventura now this.
i've heard rumors that eventually all govenors will be
actors from "predator"...
carl weathers for govenor!;)
yeah, cdbaby and several others are moving quickly
to do pc tunes before itunes begins
in (i hear) jan.
itunes managed to rack up sales of
6m @.79
it's a tough decision whether to stick to
the pay sites or spread tunes around to gauge
reaction first. i just finished my first year of posting music,
the "exposure"sites have been great.
now that the moosik's gained some momentum,
i may begin closing down the free downloads.
you know you've done enough promotion
when you can say "do a search for -----
and google or lycos returns several pages.
i started on broadjam(a review site, charts are from
blind reviews from others in the biz), and went 3 for 3
to go to #1. my one bladerunnerish piece "gridspace"
has been in 11 top 10 charts, 70 days at no.1 newage
and film music.
from there, i posted at mp3.com.au(australia)
and was the #1 newage album, artist, single for
18 weeks. at one point, i had singles 1-5 in the top 10.
i'm now at besonic(germany), (which i can highly recommend,
i've had 9 scout features in 7 months), 1sound
(mp3.com founder rod underhill's site, great sound quality)
and ic-musicmedia.com, which probably has the best ,
most supportive forum.
if you'd like to jump in to any of these, let me know,
i'll make sure they know you're there. it's the least a
fellow yeshead can do.
