GRUMPY OLD MEN!

Just seen a TV ad for the show which features famous male over 50's ranting about all sorts! It's also mentioned on Rick's website.

I for one will be watching just for the Wakey humour - but there are 'other' quite articulate and amusing contributors including Sir Bob Geldof!

If I have the time, I will try and post some of Ricks rantings on this thread for our none BBC receiving brethren.

How about trying to record it for us non receiving BBC brethren? We might be able to get a weed of that going.

I don't have VCR weed capability (although I am becoming a dab hand at weeding MD's to CD's)

I hope Upbgirls' faith in our collectives abilities bares fruit!

I will tape it and type out the good Wakey bits on Saturday.

You've probably heard of him on all of the threads that were going at the time of Yes's appearance at the Glastonbury festival this year.

He slagged Yes off something awful

he's been doing it for years. Not just to Yes but every band he ever liked in the 60s/70s

He's a band wagon jumper. Whatever is 'cool' at the time is what Peel will advocate.

Spot on Martin - well said!

I remember him in the 70's as a psuedo hippy - long hair, friends with Marc Bolan, appearing on top of the pops pretending to play mandoline to Rod Stewarts 'Maggie'...

Now - fat, no hair, friends of any musician or music perceived as 'off centre' or avante garde - denying his past! SAD.

Have you listened to his show lately? Gaaaahhhhh!!!!
I used to love Peel's Festive 50, although Shine On You Crazy Diamond won it every year.
He is very good on Home Truths though, Radio 4 Saturday mornings.

Well if Rick's on the ball he could have a grumpy old dig at John Peel while he's on.

Now that I'd like to see!

Sorry everyone, but I can't give you any information on this programme - had a few too many beers, fell asleep with the TV on (name that song!). C'mon, it was a Friday night!

Was it any good? Martin, InverYes?

Total Mess (no hangover though)

It was Ok, but probably not as good as the beer! - but it is on every Friday so you can try again next week.

Rick didn't feature an awful lot, but did confess to being a Victor Meldrew, and said that "his band" called him a Victor Meldrew too.

I must be a grumpy old man too cause a lot of their moans suited me to a T.

Sorry Dave, a pretty obscure reference outside of UK.

I saw the programme. I think you have got to remember some of this is tongue in cheek so you shouldn't be offended.
Rick ranted against body-peircing asking what that was all about and asking how the hell can you have sex properly with a ring through your .........
He also raged against teenage magazines for girls, that offer sex advice for 12 year old girls. Saying something along the lines of "in my day we learned about sex behind the bike sheds at school".
He also had a go at people who always try to stop you on the shopping precinct to take part in a survey or want you to contribute to something.
Don't take offence anyone. This is a light-hearted programme really. It just deals with middle aged men who are basically pi$$ed off at not being young anymore.

I saw it, it was reasonably amusing, certainly Rick looked the grumpiest but I think Bob Geldof actually was the grumpiest.

And my kids reckon I'm an old fart!!!!!!!!!!! Would have loved to have sen this program.

As for John Peel. I can remember in the mid to late 60's he was my hero. He had a Sunday afternoon programme on BBC and he played all the bands that didn't get a "hearing" on any other programme......in other words most of the bands I loved. Therefore its hard to believe that he is now 'crapping" on the same bands he promoted back then.

Anybody got an email address so I can 'debate" this with him.
