I really like Run Through The Light because of the great jam at the end of the song.Great bass playing and I think it's Trevor playing bass instead of Chris.

"Machine Messiah" is a stone masterpiece, one of the greatest songs Yes ever made.

I also really really love "White Car". I like making a suite out of those two songs. Because of the symmetrical structure of MM, I found you could program WC to play both before and after MM, so that WC serves as an extension of the symmetrical structure. It sounds great that way! And WC is so short, I always want to hear it more than once anyway. Try it -- just program tracks 2, 1, 2, in that order, turn down the lights, crank up the volume, and hit play.

The rest of the album is good, but none of the other songs are flawless the way those first two are.

Does It Really Happen was the first tune to really hit me when I first heard this album. Not often you hear a bass lead like on this one.

On the other hand, I will admit to really liking Into The Lens as well, cameras be damned.

And Trevor does play bass on Run Through The Light. And Chris plays piano on it as well.

What an amazing song.

Yet, can you imagine Jon singing it? It would be so strange, as the lyric is SO different from what Jon usually does. I would love to hear a re-take of the song with the Anderson touch.

Maybe 'live' next year?

Tempus Fugit - tricky sucker to play, but by FAR the best on the album IMHO.

Mind you Does It Really Happen was a great way to kick off the Drama Tour.

I've always loved DOES IT REALLY HAPPEN the most. This album was horrid in my opinion...at least I felt that way at the time. I was extremely let down that Jon & Rick left Yes. But now I like the uniqueness of DRAMA. I think I'm kinder to DRAMA now because at the time I dreaded the thought that this line up would be permanant. It was as hard to accept this as YES as it would have been hard to accept a version of JETHRO TULL without Ian Anderson. DRAMA seems to be a Rutles-like approach to Yes.

"Does It Really Happen" is my favorite released track from that album.

Has anyone heard the two tracks "Go Through This" and "We Can Fly From Here"? I still can not figure out why they were not included on the album. Better yet, why they were not included on the recent Yes boxset by Rhino. I think they were two of the best songs I heard from that line up.

I would love to hear the TFTO lineup do those tracks. Nothing against Trevor, but I bet Jon Anderson could really make those songs shine.

Well, I have listened to those songs a couple of times now and I think they would have fiited on the Drama album perfectly, they are both very good songs indeed and at least "We can Fly From Here" could have been on the album, because as far as I understand it from Chris Welch's "Close to the Edge-story of Yes" book, that was the first song Downes/Horn wrote coming into Yes and if they didn't think it was good enough to be on the album, then why play it on the tour that followwed the release of the album?

My favorite is Machine Messiah because I'm more into the "epics" but I like everything on this album.

I find it interesting that many long time fans disliked it when it was released but now, 20+ years later, many have revisited it and now enjoy it more.

I am lucky in that when I discovered Yes (94) ALL of these albums were equally new (to me) so I didn't have any hang-ups about which member was missing.

I have always thought that White Car is the best song Yes ever played. When I saw the Drama tour, Geoff made a 20 minute opus of this that put him on par with Tony Banks and Keith Emerson with his ability, but established himself with his own unique creativity as well. 20 minutes of my life that I will never forget.

Plus, during Tempus Fugit when the 1 second silent interval comes when the band asks: "And finally answer to..." I hollered out into the silence at the top of my lungs "YES!!", Chris looked quite surprised and pleased as well as he nodded in my direction. He musta seen me, the only empty seats at Hampton Coliseum were the ones directly in front and to the side of me. And I was jazzed.

I remember the first time I put Drama in the cd player. I had to look at the cover to make sure I put a Yes cd player in. Machine Messiah was so raunchy for Yes I couldn't believe it was them. Second thing I had to do was see who was in the band because I couldn't believe this was the same Yes I knew.

Cool album.

White Car is one of the best. People tend to forget it because of the limited length of the song. Geoffrey Downes is underrated, I agree.

Machine Messiah without a doubt, for me. That song's unbelieveable. I think the chords and melodies are so beautiful and intense in that song. In that regard, I think this song is stronger than some of their other earlier epics, you know? Just in actual melodic themes, not necessarily lyrically or anything.

I guess I'm thinking mainly of the big instrumental major key build they do in that song. Kind of a moving bit of music there.

I'm surprised to see that TEMPUS FUGIT doesn't get more votes here.
That song IMO seems to sum-up the overall feel of the album perfectly...
It's aggressive and crunchy, streamlined yet surprising, and somehow both Yes-like and UN-Yes-like all at the same time.

If nothing else, TEMPUS FUGIT was the best collective representation of the "Newwave Prog" BUGGLES/YES union.

Does It Really Happen. Lead bass aplenty, time signature tricks galore, Downes' widescreen keyboards, plus the closest to the classic vocal sound this version of the band produced (though I've often thought that Horn sounded like Anderson mostly because of Squire's backing vocals). A nifty package.

I've always had a soft spot for this album. Maybe because I got into Yes with GFTO, then discovered the early 70s classics later. At any rate, Drama proved that necessity could be the mother of invention for Yes. And (IMHO), it's better than Tormato.

I voted for Does it really happen. Great vocals and one of the best base lines Chris ever played. Machine Messiah is a great song as well but sounds a bit too much fragmented. Tempus Fugit is a bit overplayed by myself. The other songs are rather weak in my opinion.

Does It Really Happen tops my Drama list too...

Chris' monster bass, Geoff's swirling keyboards, Alan's thunderous drums, Steve's tasty guitar licks, and Trevor's vocals are dead on. The Rhino reissue has gotten a lot play lately!!

Despite not featuring Jon Anderson, Drama is one of my Yes favorites

Machine Messiah without hesitation.

There is not a bad millisecond on this album, I just really love MM.

Everybody raves about Chris on Tempus Fugit, and rightly so. But, check out Steve on that one. He seriously rocks on this whole album.

Lots of people can operate a guitar on a technical level, but when I hear Steve let loose on Tempus Fugit, I FEEL something, very strongly.

My vote is still for MM. Great composition, makes me feel something, goes through a variety of moods. I think that puts it in a class with CTTE, Gates and Awaken, even though it's quite a bit shorter. Heart of the Sunrise would be a good comparison in this regard.

GREAT album.

Machine Messiah...for today anyway.

It was everything Yes with Jon couldn't be in 1980, and everyting Yes could be with Chris in charge.

Heavy, ominous and completely appropriate for the times.

Not a twee sentiment to be found here. This was rock, and exactly where yes should have gone after The end of the 70's.

That's funny, as for me Drama was definitely the easiest Yes album to get into out of the eight albums I have aqcuired so far. Loved it from the very beginning, listened to it repeatedly for the first couple of days...could not get enough!

It might have helped that I had such low expectations for Drama initially (thanks to fan forums like these! LOL) and yet didn't have any hang-ups about Jon not being behind the microphone as I'm fairly new to band anyway.

I'm kinda happy that I'm able to enjoy Drama from start to finish. :headset:

"Does it Really Happen" is to me the low point of the album.

Whoa - well, I had to go with "Tempus Fugit". I think it is the best overall crafted song. Starts great, continues great, and ends great, and at the right time!!

I cannot say the same thing about "Machine Messiah", which is my favorite song on Drama. MM is awesome, but does not end well, in my opinion. The reintroduction to the original theme and verse could have been developed a little better.
